About me

I was born in Venice in the lagoon and since I was a child there was something pulsating inside me. My parents couldn't tear me away from the boats I built on the sand at sea and on which I spent hours and hours. In Venice you are forced to move on the water, but the lagoon was not enough for me. Even as a boy I used to go fishing in the sea, of which I have always respected His enormous greatness.

Yes! I still can't live without it. I'm a restless person. He found tranquility, peace and serenity when I cast off the moorings and the blue of the sea gives me its endless spectacle "always the same and always different".

I have a lot of miles behind me, but I still feel like I don't have any, so much is the emotion at every start.

My second passion (also a great challenge) is cooking. I have managed small restaurants in Venice, with great feedback from customers who continue to follow me to this day. And here's what they are: a Cuikker = Skipper Cook !!

My experience

I sailed for many years in the Mediterranean. The Adriatic and Greece are my seas, although I know many other routes. I started early, as a child, to go to sea, for fishing and the curiosity of a boy who lives on its shores. Then the boats and sailing, the farthest sailings, the widest horizons.

Bellissima esperienza ! I regret having to negatively review an experience in which I had placed hopes and expectations in the light of my past wonderful sailing holidays. I had been waiting for a long time to relive such a holiday. Unfortunately, the trip turned out to be a bit disappointing. First of all, it must be said that the itinerary described in the advertisement has not been remotely respected. My partner and I, after the first three days, decided to discuss with the skipper about what was happening. It was inconceivable to find ourselves sailing on completely other, absolutely unexpected routes. I think anyone would have interpreted this as a lack of respect and fairness towards the customer. I book a holiday knowing that I have to leave from the island of Zakynthos, and then visit Kefalonia, Ithaca until I arrive in Lefkada. We saw little or nothing of the first two islands and never arrived in Lefkada. We sailed for a maximum of 2 to 4 hours during the day and stopped in port as early as lunchtime. This means that we experienced most of the holiday on dry land. Which is unthinkable and unfair having rented a boat specifically to enjoy the freedom and intimate everyday dimension that contact with the sea offers; to enjoy the opportunity to keep away from bathing facilities and the frenzy of crowded resorts, as well as all its comforts. On the contrary, most of the time, during the morning hours, we were forced to settle for visiting at most a cove and spending a few hours there swimming and snorkeling. At lunch we were already in the port and, to spend the day, we had no choice but to reach (by taxi) the nearest beach by renting an umbrella and sunbed on the lido. Another time, on the advice of the skipper Donato, we had to take a tourist boat full of people to visit the coves and the beach of the wreck, which can be absolutely visited with our boat. The skipper often appeared tired and listless, tried to sail as little as possible, especially under sail, and proposed to make few short trips. We did not understand if this attitude stemmed from his apathy or from physical problems such as his declared discomfort with a hip that he will soon have to operate. Maybe he is not able to stand the job of a skipper? It is not its customers who have to suffer the consequences and limitations, having paid for a service. So, to sum up, we spent three long days on the mainland, at beaches and paying for various services and transfers. Which makes it clear how much we spent on "extras". We had foreseen the cost of the galley, petrol, the port station and the boat rental but we had not expected to have to spend twice as much because our skipper decided to let us experience the boat more like a hotel or a place to stay than a place to stay... The fact that we have been forced to have dinner almost always in restaurants and taverns also says a lot. After discussing with our travel companions, Federica and Andrea with whom we immediately became friends (fortunately their company improved every day of the holiday) it was considered necessary to talk and discuss with Donato in order to save what could be saved and give a turning point to the holiday. After a long dialogue in which we made wishes and requests as well as expressing all our discomforts, we finally managed to get something more. We spent more time on the boat and we managed to convince him to let us have some night experience at anchor. In this way we were able to organize a few dinners on board and take a swim at night. In short, we had to sweat and struggle to get what, in reality, was rightfully ours. Speaking now of the "person", leaving aside for a moment his rather questionable professional figure, I would like to express some considerations on topics that I have very close to my heart. Unfortunately, I have witnessed speeches, jokes, obscene jokes sometimes sexist or racist on a daily basis... It was often embarrassing and irritating... They don't miss offensive jokes. In 2024 it is intolerable ! I hope that Donato will take this review in a constructive way, I hope that Donato can reflect on his conduct and in particular I hope that he can repent.

Donato is a great skipper and host. Although the weather wasn't perfect he made sure we saw many beautiful beaches and coves and had a wonderful time in the Ionian Sea! Donato, mille grazie!!
