Give this experience a try!

This experience, in a nutshell

This cruise proposal is addressed to sea-enthusiasts with and without experience on a sailboat. The skipper has many years of experience, both in the region and in the guidance of sailing novices. Active assistance in sailing the boat is more than welcome and will be supported by the skipper. The focus of the journey is the pleasure and the experience of common outdoor activities, summer relaxation as well as getting to know the country and its people. Changes to the route may be necessary due to the weather, and the skipper attaches very high importance to the safety and comfort of the crew. The skipper is always happy to respond to the wishes and needs of his fellow travellers and crew members, even ad hoc, to ensure a unique touring experience:

Lonely bays, turquoise-blue waters, dreamlike anchorages - with its 1,200 islands and a total of 5,835 kilometers of coastline, Croatia is the perfect destination for those who dream of a vacation on a sailboat. On the Adriatic Sea, there is a dense network of beautiful anchorages and first-class marinas that invite you to linger, as well as countless city and fishing ports. The favourable wind conditions and in general barely existing tides make it a place for everyone, whether newcomers or experienced crew members.

Istria, in the northern part of Croatia, is a peninsula characterized by lonely bays, medieval towns like Pula with pebble and rocky beaches. The Kvarner bay with the port city of Rijeka is located on the north-eastern Adriatic Sea and amazes with its impressive scenery, the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the majestically towering mountains of the Velebit ridge in the background. The waters around the islands such as Krk, Cres, Lošinj, Rab are a paradise for sailors, beaches and idyllic bays are inviting to anchor and swim. And on this trip you will explore all this beauty in depth.

Leg 1

First Day

The starting point and the end point of this trip are the lovely town of OPATIJA, formerly ABBAZIA, on the peninsula of Istria, After arriving until 03:00 pm on the day before, and a detailed briefing on the boat, its features and above all about safety, the destination of the first day on the water is the lovely bay of KRUŠĆICA on CRES. When finally leaving the harbour and heading towards the south-east, it is inevitable to cross the renowned Kvarner Bay completely, which will be a great prelude for sailing, especially with fair winds. The view to the southeast gives already an impression of the endless Croatian island realm extending in this direction, unbelievably versatile and sensationally beautiful. The bay KRUŠĆICA on the island of CRES is situated directly opposite the small, uninhabited island of PLAVNIK. This beautiful bay invites to anchor, swim and relax - and of course to the common first dinner on board!

First Day

Leg 2

Second Day

After a wonderfully relaxed first night aboard, the next morning the journey will continue towards the island of RAB - of course not without a morning swim in the turquoise, clear sea. RAB is a gem in the Croatian sea. Tourists are particularly fond of it, coming with their own boat or by ferry, which connects the island with the mainland. The Marina Rab on the opposite side of the eponymous town of RAB is very well organized. It has clean sanitary facilities, a small supermarket, the obligatory boat supply shop and a Skippers-Bar. The always busy, extremely picturesque city centre, with its antique pedestrian zone, is located just a short walk around the basin of the harbour. On the quayside of the old town one can find exclusive hotels, tourist sightseeing boats and in the immediate vicinity shops and many restaurants, bars and konobas - the Croatian equivalent to Greek taverns. This great day will surely be concluded in one of them

Second Day

Leg 3

Third Day

After a rich breakfast at the Skippers-Bar of the marina, you will cast-off for the continuation of your journey towards the next anchor idyll at the southern tip of CRES. The bay KOLORAT, the first and quietest part of the so-called Five-Finger Bay, will be visited. The water here, as almost everywhere, is very clear and pleasantly fresh. A multitude of fish will immediately gather curiously around the boat. It always seems like they are waiting already for a little donation in the form of dried bread. The evening sun will immerse the sea, the rocks and the low forest in a pleasant, warm light. A beautiful play of colours, which has already been loved by so many painters and conjured on canvas. The well-deserved rest and relaxation after a wonderful day then sets in.

Third Day

Leg 4

Fourth Day

The next day's destination is MALI LOŠINJ on the island of LOŠINJ, of which the southern cape must be rounded. MALI LOŠINJ, an old fishing village and now a popular holiday resort, is located on the narrowest part of the island, in a long, very safe bay. There you will find e.g. a brand new, modern museum, right on the waterfront, which houses one of the best-preserved Hellenistic bronze statues worldwide, found in the waters close to the island. The statue portrays a so-called Apoxyomenos, a junior athlete. Alternatively to a visit to the museum one can stroll also through the dreamy streets, climb the old Venetian parish church and browse through the many tiny shops. The small and picturesque little town of Mali Lošinj could almost be an Adriatic sister of the famous St. Tropez in France - and you may wonder what it would look like today, if Brigitte Bardot, Sofia Loren and Grace Kelly had first come here in the Sixties?

Fourth Day

Leg 5

Fifth Day

The next day the bow of our boat will again be turned north, back to the peninsula of Istria. But before the final crossing of the Kvarner Bay, another night will be spent in the Marina CRES, very close to the town which gave the island its name. Again, it is a beautifully landscaped and well-organized marina with all the comforts. The town of CRES itself can be reached after a very nice, 20-minute walk along the beach. The old-town there consists of a dense core of houses, built together and connected to each other. The stones of the houses, which retain the patina of the time, seem to have the power to connect people as well. This creates a sense of respect and trust within this picturesque little village. Here, too, a stop in one of the traditional konobas with their excellent Croatian specialties is a must, before making the way back to the marina.

Fifth Day

Leg 6

Sixth Day

The next morning invites you again to the Skippers-Bar of the Marina for a delicious cappuccino or toast, before crossing the Kvarner Bay finally back towards OPATIJA. After arriving at the home port of our boat, it will then be time for the crew to gather all their belongings. The day will end in the open-air grill restaurant of Marina with grilled local specialties, with lots of stories to tell about this great experience. After a last overnight stay in the harbour, it's time to say goodbye again to the new friends and the boat, with which one will have covered about 150-200 nautical miles at the end of this trip.

Sailing, swimming and slowing down in a magical island kingdom

Thank you Tomas and Fidelio for a magical week! A great experience with sun, wind, waves, swims, aperitivos, improvised recipes and a couple of adventures... In the whole week we set foot on land only once, a total escape from the routine :) Tomas is an excellent skipper, he makes you feel safe and is always ready to teach about anything that has to do with sailing and the sea. We were also really lucky with the rest of the crew, the five of us had a lot of fun and passed some unforgettable evenings. Thanks again everyone!

This was one of the most incredible and beautiful holiday of my life. No doubt on it. The nights spent on anchorage looking at the stars, the sailing experience with Thomas will be unforgettable. I can also confirm the patience of Thomas in explaining the basic rules for sailing which other guest of Fidelio also mentioned. If you want to have, a great experience go for Fidelio! Thomas is very flexible what the route concerns; he tries always to accomplish all the wishes of the crew.

Together with my partner and two friends, we had the honor of sailing on his boat for a week in the magical Quarnero waters and landscapes. Tomas, the skipper and owner of the boat, gently let us enter his world on board. Tomas's seamanship and knowledge of the area are key assets for living the experience stress free. We were particularly interested in learning the basics of sailing and seamanship and Tomas has taken all the time (and patience!) needed to provide us with this knowledge. When you set sail, it is vital to fit the "sailor" mindset and adapt to the wind philosophy, and with Tomas we had a complete alignment. The beauty of little things such as a good cooked dinner with a glass of wine in a dreamy bay, the emotion of setting both sails and having a sunset chat about ancient Quarnero legends were the fondest memories I will keep. We are thankful to Tomas for being the person he is and we hope to have showed the respect . Matteo
