This experience, in a nutshell

San Vito lo Capo is truly a corner of paradise, and the Cous Cous Fest represents a festival full of beauty and inclusiveness. The absolute protagonist of the event is couscous, a dish that carries with it a deep history and symbolizes the meeting and integration of Mediterranean cultures.

At the end of September, Sicily offers splendid, clear and breezy days, perfect conditions for sailing in the enchanting waters of this area at the western end of the island.

During the morning we will sail between the Zingaro Reserve, Scopello, Makari and the Monte Cofano Reserve; in the evening, however, we will sleep in San Vito lo Capo to fully experience the culinary and musical events of the Cous Cous Fest!

Our itinerary

Boarding is scheduled for the afternoon at 17:00, directly in San Vito lo Capo.

In the following days, our mornings will be dedicated to sailing among some of the most evocative natural wonders of western Sicily. We'll pass through the Zingaro Nature Reserve, a protected area famous for its scenic trails, crystal-clear coves, and rich biodiversity. We will head towards Scopello, with its characteristic fishing village and the famous stacks that emerge from the turquoise sea. We will explore Macari, a quiet seaside town with pristine beaches and stunning scenery.

Every evening we will return to the port of San Vito lo Capo, where we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant and engaging atmosphere of the Cous Cous Fest, a festival that celebrates Mediterranean culture through authentic flavors, live music and moments of joy. Our journey will end on the fourth day, with disembarkation, again in San Vito lo Capo, expected by 18:00, or on request the following morning by 9.00.

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions and/or technical or logistical reasons, in order to ensure safety and a pleasant sailing experience for all participants.

ENJOY: in the blue painted blue of the Aeolian Islands

The holiday was enjoyable thanks to our well-established crew of friends, new people added who were meant to stay in my heart, very friendly and helpful staff members, and lovely places seen. Unfortunately, I have to give a negative evaluation to the skippers/organizers who, despite having high qualifications and having been informed several times of the kind of holiday appreciated by all present (sailing holiday) gave priority to motor navigation more to reach pre-established destinations and restaurants to offer rather than to listen to our needs for freedom from time and space, to sail listening to the sounds of the wind and the sea and to relax in nature. The sails were hoisted only once in the whole week despite the fact that the opportunities had also presented themselves other times to our great disappointment given the beautiful boat we were on!! To fill a now full vase was added the lack of clarity and average values much higher than the costs (fuel and general) which led the holiday in the end to be more expensive than we expected. This will certainly teach us to ask for much more precise and detailed information before booking other trips on sailsquare.

I recommend this sailing holiday to those looking above all for authentic human relationships and friendships that can become infinite: from this point of view the experience is truly unforgettable. The staff was friendly and attentive. In our case the skipper did not act as a supplement, but it was not a problem because we were already a group. However, it is essential to have clear expectations. If you want to spend the week sailing mainly in advance, it is advisable to find out well in advance: in my case, I only found out after departure that we would only use the sails for a short moment in a single day. Similarly, I didn't know that the skipper/organization was predominantly aiming to eat at local restaurants or kiosks instead of on board. With this information I would definitely have chosen another option or destination.

The holiday was overall pleasant and the staff were able to support guests in life on board (even in the kitchen) and provide information on the area to visit. However, I emphasize a functional management to respect the (not entirely declared) "roadmap" and to the presence at dinners or pre-established initiatives, rather than to go to sea sailing and therefore unsuitable for experienced sailors but also simply for those who want to contribute to navigation (in fact, only half a day, after numerous requests, was dedicated to sailing. For the rest of the week, even in conditions of sufficient wind, the engine was used). This approach has very often taken away the pleasure, fundamental for this type of holiday, of feeling active members of a crew, leaving the feeling of having simply been "transported", sometimes even belittled. Fuel costs, and holiday costs in general, were above average. The companions of adventure were excellent, who worked in a very positive atmosphere.
