This experience, in a nutshell

Ready to discover Madeira?

We will spend four days sailing between Madeira and Porto Santo, discovering these wonderful islands.

During this experience, in addition to the moments of navigation, we will spend three days in Madeira, making a base in the marina of Funchal. From here we will set off to explore this wonderful island with three tours:

The Rhum Route, a wonderful trip through ancient taverns, a visit to the ancient factory-museum of the famous Madeira Rum, in the north of the island, savoring ancient culture and traditions.

Visit to the west of the island, among landscapes and majestic cliffs, with trekking immersed in a lush and unexpected nature , with equatorial appearances.

Trekking on the cliffs of the east of the island to the most extreme lighthouse, in places reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, with cliffs overlooking the sea contrasted with gentle grassy slopes that slide gently towards the ocean.

An alternative holiday where ocean routes, culture, gastronomy, sport and the discovery of distant places and traditions are mixed. For more information, contact me via the "Contact the organizer" button.

WARNING: On board there is Nao, our mascot, a hot-haired Jack Russel puppy, very affectionate, polite, and a very experienced ocean sailor!

Note: This experience is suitable for sailors with average experience.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION:

Before boarding a sailing boat, it is essential to know a few things.

SUITCASES: Spaces are limited, luggage must be contained; Avoid rigid suitcases, they are almost impossible to stow.
CLOTHING: It is essential to have a fleece, a light windbreaker, or a heavy k-way, preferably complete with trousers, long trousers of medium weight and a pair of thick socks (not cotton).
FOOTWEAR: On board you are mainly barefoot. Those who prefer can equip themselves with shoes with white soles to be used exclusively on board.

REFIT ANNO 2008 Il KOALA 50 è la barca di serie nata dal mitico 50 piedi CS&RB Busnelli, con cui nel 1973/74 Doi Malingri partecipò alla prima edizione della Whitbread Round The World Race. Il fratello Franco fu il project manager dell’imbarcazione curando la parte ingegneristica e prese parte alla “famigerata” seconda tappa tra Città del Capo e Sidney. Su questa barca si sono scritte tra le più importanti pagine della marineria italiana nonché si sono formati i più grandi skipper contemporanei, il CS & RB naviga ancora ed attualmente si trova nel Sud Pacifico. Acquistata nel 2008 è stata completamente restaurata ed ammodernata, mantenendo però integro il carattere ed il suo temperamento. Dotata di 3 ampie e comode cabine doppie, 2 bagni con doccia con boiler, 4 posti in dinette per un totale omologato di 10 posti letto. Leg 1

From Funchal to Porto Santo

Departure in the morning, taking advantage of the favorable weather window. We will sail for about 30-40 nautical miles on a NE course, accompanied by the trade winds and a long wave.

We will use an efficient sail set, with one or two reefing mainsail and genoa or jib, depending on the sailing conditions.

Upon arrival, we'll anchor in front of the beach of Porto Santo, where we can enjoy the sunset and end the day with dinner at anchor.

Leg 2

Porto Santo

We'll spend the day exploring Porto Santo, between scenic paths and the characteristic village. We will also have time to enjoy the long beach, with the possibility of swimming and snorkeling.

In the afternoon we will do some short sails along the coast and, if possible, we will also dedicate ourselves to some maneuvers. The night will be in a sheltered anchorage.

Leg 3

From Porto Santo to Quinta do Lorde

Early morning departure for sailing to Madeira. During the crossing we may encounter possible accelerations of the wind downwind of the island.

The navigation will be organized in shifts and, if useful for wind and course conditions, we will use the spinnaker pole for downwind gaits.

Once we arrive in the east of Madeira, we'll moor at Quinta do Lorde and take a short excursion to Ponta de São Lourenço.

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions and/or technical or logistical reasons, in order to ensure safety and a pleasant sailing experience for all participants.

This was a really good sailing trip. It was well organized, relaxed, and enjoyable. A special mention goes to Filippo, our skipper. He is not only a highly capable and experienced sailor but also a genuinely kind and welcoming person. He was always happy to listen to everyone’s ideas, adapt the itinerary when possible, and make sure everyone felt comfortable and involved. One of the biggest surprises of the trip was his cooking! Every day he prepared delicious meals and snacks that went far beyond what we expected on a sailing holiday. He is truly an amazing chef, and every meal became another highlight of the experience. We visited beautiful coves and stunning spots around Mallorca, enjoyed great sailing conditions, and shared unforgettable moments together. The atmosphere on board was always friendly, relaxed, and fun. And of course, Noa was the real star of the trip! She won everyone’s heart, and we all had so much fun playing with her throughout the week.

*Return to the helm* A parenthesis of the long-awaited – and missed – summer holidays, in a late October... where everything was perfectly aligned: ☀️ sun, 💨 wind up to 30 knots, unfurled sails and breathtaking destinations, among the most varied shades of sunrises and sunsets. The skipper? What can I say... An excellence in terms of safety, handling and upwind and crosswind. Even at night: impeccable navigation, always under full sail! I left alone, with the courage and the awareness that it would be an experience to be savored to the fullest. To be discovered and then left a trace. And so it was! Mouth-watering lunches and dinners, a wonderful and intense boat holiday, lived following and supporting the wave motion. I was amazed at the sight of dolphins with Es Vedrà in the background... a boat all for me and for my unexpected furry friend, **Nao**, the skipper's affectionate dog: a sweet and ever-present companion, a real **unexpected pet therapy** that made every moment even more special. And then, **back at the helm**... feel the force of the wind in your hands, the thrill of the route, the freedom that only the sea can give! Thank you, Filippo, and thanks also to Nao — it's been a long time since I sailed with the genuine enthusiasm of feeling the wind flow between jib and mainsail...
