This experience, in a nutshell

If the Atlantic Crossing is the one that has the most appeal, the outbound route from the Mediterranean (from Malaga to the Canary Islands, about 750 nautical miles, including a stop in Morocco) is just as rich in experiences that can be done by sail. On the contrary, this route is often more challenging from the point of view of navigation (e.g. the passage over the Strait of Gibraltar), useful and ideal for getting an idea and trying out what life is like on the ocean before deciding on a longer commitment such as the real Ocean Crossing.

Once they left Gibraltar, the first real shifts on board began aimed at making the passage of the strait and the so-called Pillars of Hercules.

Spain on the starboard side, Africa on the left, the rock, the emotions of mythological and historical tales: passing Gibraltar is always fascinating.

Once you have passed the Strait of Gibraltar, you will cross the Tarifa lighthouse on the starboard side and enter the ocean: at these latitudes, navigation can start to be challenging, with weather conditions that can change unexpectedly compared to the forecast, due to the possible disturbances present in the North Atlantic.

If Aeolus is benevolent, we meet the Portuguese Trade Wind, a northerly wind that immediately allows us to experience real ocean navigation.

Our itinerary

Once you leave Malaga, in about 10/12 hours of navigation in which you can begin to become familiar with the boat and the maneuvers, you will reach Gibraltar. The stage is obligatory as the last supply on European soil of both water and fuel and foodstuffs, before the great leap to the ocean.

The first stop will be in Rabat, where we will register on Moroccan soil (passport required). Rabat (capital of Morocco) is a beautiful town where you can breathe the most traditional Moroccan air. Weather permitting, there will be time to take a tour of the city's Medina, to discover the merchants of fabrics, spices and leathers and to dine in one of the typical restaurants.

Once back on board, the route south will start from Rabat.

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions and/or technical or logistical reasons, in order to ensure safety and a pleasant sailing experience for all participants.

I had wanted to sail to the Grenadines for a long time. I am overall quite satisfied with the holiday, despite a bit of tension between a crew member and the captain

Canary-Martinique Atlantic crossing. Adventure of a lifetime!

I am sorry to have to point out the serious shortcomings of the skipper in making the crew find a boat in order and safely to face such a long journey. No sail of respect, the bow old and worn, serious leaks of diesel in the bilge resulting in unbearable smell under deck, we finished the gas a week before arrival ... These are just some of the serious shortcomings of the skipper.----------------------SPOWER OF THE SKIPPER----------------------Caro Federico, I read your review and report the following. I did 7 Atlantic crossings, one of which was completely solo: I don't think I have to take sailing lessons. I can't hide from you that the relationships were difficult with the whole crew. What you call "old and worn sail" brought you all a day early to Martinique, so I do not consider your criticisms valid because with the facts I have shown something else. Unfortunately, contrary to what you told me, none of the crew was actually able to stay at the helm and in the only half hour in which the autopilot did not work there were several moments of difficulty. You boarded believing you were taking a regular sailing cruise and not an Atlantic crossing of over 20 days in the middle of the ocean. I can't even forget your behavior when after being sick in the bathroom you didn't bother to clean in the slightest and left the task to me. The only thing I would like to give you, in part, reason for concerns the loss of diesel, caused by a job done badly by the mechanic and then solved.
