This experience, in a nutshell
The archipelago of the Pontine Islands emerges from the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea with six stunning volcanic islands off the southern coast of Lazio: Ponza, Ventotene, Santo Stefano, Gavi, Zannone and Palmarola. Six names that evoke a small paradise made up of wild nature, crystal clear waters and hidden bays, perfect for those who want to disconnect from everyday life and experience the sea in all its beauty.
The main islands are Ponza and Ventotene, the only inhabited and largest islands in the archipelago. The others, smaller and almost uninhabited, are largely protected natural areas and can be discovered mainly by sea, among spectacular cliffs and coves that can only be reached by boat.
Ponza, the largest and liveliest, is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Italy. Here the sea sculpts spectacular caves with surprising colors and laps beaches loved by visitors such as the Frontone Beach, Cala Feola and the suggestive inlet of the Parata. Its town, with pastel-colored houses, narrow alleys, shops and rooms carved into the rock, contributes to creating a unique and fascinating atmosphere.
More intimate and quiet, Ventotene offers a different rhythm, ideal for those seeking relaxation and authenticity. Among its pedestrianized streets there are fascinating historical testimonies, such as the Villa Giulia in Punta Eolo – an ancient imperial residence with rooms, gardens and mosaics – and the extraordinary Roman port carved into the volcanic rock.
Among the wildest gems of the archipelago stands out Palmarola, the third largest island and almost completely uninhabited. Caves, stacks, small beaches and hidden bays make it a place of rare beauty, now a protected nature reserve. The only traces of man are found in the characteristic houses dug into the caves of Cala del Porto, the only landing place on the island.
