This experience, in a nutshell

This WWF camp is the perfect opportunity to live an unforgettable experience made up of adventure, sea, dolphin and fin whale sightings aboard an 18-meter wooden schooner. The WWF guide on board will involve the children in an adventure in the waves, in the Pelagos Sanctuary, the marine protected area that is home to many species of fascinating cetaceans.

Participants will not only observe cetaceans, but they will become explorers of the sea, using scientific tools and non-invasive methods, they will learn how to study and protect these incredible creatures, transforming each sighting into an educational and extraordinary moment.

WHAT DO YOU DO ON BOARD A RESEARCH CRUISE?
  • Whale watching: Get up close and personal with dolphins, whales, and other species in their natural habitat.
  • Science labs: learn how to use binoculars, hydrophones to listen to the sounds of the sea, and analysis software for monitoring.
  • Nature photography: discover photographic techniques to document marine wildlife.
  • Life on board and sailing notions: sharing the day with peers, participating in sailing activities and small daily tasks, such as cooking or tidying up.

This cruise is an opportunity to develop new skills and responsibilities in a safe and stimulating environment, as well as a fun vacation. The students will discover the value of collaboration, adaptability and respect for nature, alternating research with activities such as:
  • Take dips and snorkel in the crystal clear waters of the most beautiful bays of the Tuscan Archipelago.
  • Dine and chat on board under the starry sky.
  • Participate in discussions with WWF experts on the protection of the marine environment.

WHY CHOOSE THIS CRUISE
A safe and supervised environment: The team on board is made up of experienced skippers and WWF guides qualified and trained to work with the very young.
Education and fun: a perfect balance between learning and leisure.
A sustainable experience: sailing reduces the environmental impact, teaching children the importance of responsible tourism.
The construction of unique memories: an experience like this is not forgotten and will always be remembered as one of the most beautiful in life.

A SPECIAL BOAT AND A PASSIONATE SKIPPER
The wooden schooner, designed to raise awareness of the impact of plastic in the seas, is the heart of this adventure. Cozy and safe, it is the perfect place to learn how to sail, relax and create new friendships.
The skipper of this experience will be Francesco N. (click on his name to read reviews left by other travellers).
Sailing with Francesco means taking a step back in time, to experience those emotions that only history with its traditions can give you. Lie down on the deck, eyes closed, the sun warming your face and feel the gentle roll of the boat as it safely plows the water. In fact, the schooner is built entirely of wood and was designed for an environmental project to raise awareness on the issue of plastic in the sea. For those who wish, during the experience it will be possible to learn sailing notions with a small course held by the skipper. On board with Francesco there may be 1 or 2 crew members who will help him during the navigation.

Our itinerary

The cruise will depart from the port of Punta Ala, taking participants on a unique journey through the southern waters of the Pelagos Sanctuary, a crucial area for the conservation of cetaceans. The navigation will be concentrated in the area south of the islands of Giglio, Giannutri and Montecristo, an extraordinary natural habitat where it is also possible to spot fascinating and rare marine species, such as the Cuvier's beaked whale and the common dolphin. Depending on the weather and sea conditions and the routes chosen for whale watching, it will also be possible to reach Northern Corsica.
The crystal clear waters of the Tuscan archipelago and Corsica will offer an unforgettable experience: white beaches, transparent waters, picturesque villages and unspoiled nature to explore between one sighting session and another.
The itinerary may vary depending on the weather and sea conditions and is decided by the skipper in collaboration with the WWF guide. Each route promises unforgettable moments of discovery and wonder: decisions regarding the route are made for the satisfaction of the entire crew and to ensure their safety.

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions and/or technical or logistical reasons, in order to ensure safety and a pleasant sailing experience for all participants.
