A weekend to discover the snowy alpine pastures of Queyras. Two nights in a friendly hut, a peak over 3000m above sea level and snowy immensity just for us! In addition to the grandiose landscape it will be an opportunity to discover the natural heritage through animals and their tracks (chamois, hares, ptarmigan and why not wolf well present in the region!), The flora of which a part is still present in winter as well as the cultural heritage with a small visit of St Véran to close the stay.
At the station Guillestre-Montdauphin at 8:30. That's 40 minutes after the arrival of the night train, just the time to have a good breakfast in the cafe!
Progress of the stay
Saturday: Meeting of the group, presentation of the weekend and equipment. Transfer to St Véran (the highest village in Europe!) And climb to the refuge Blanche by an easy route to heat. Initiation to the use of the security equipment and night to the nice refuge of Blanche nestled at 2500m altitude in the heart of a vast circus.
Sunday: Ascent to the Peak of Caramantran at 3024m above sea level on the border ridge with Italy. Unobstructed view of the Queyras, the Italian Piedmont and Mount Viso (3842m). Big tour in the circus of the White and discovery of the playful side of the racket in a grandiose landscape. Back to the refuge for a hot snack. Night at the refuge.
Monday: Descent to Saint Véran by an old irrigation canal. Passage possible according to the weather at the Col du Longet. Superb view of the cirque and surrounding peaks. Visit St Véran and return to the train station at the end of the afternoon (5:30 pm) to have time to dine before the night train.

Technical and physical level required
Medium: I have not necessarily practiced snowshoeing but I have a good physical shape and a habit of summer hiking. I am able to walk 4 hours a day with a backpack of 5 to 6kg. The objective of this trip is to fully enjoy the pleasures of snowshoeing in the mountains, with a positive altitude of approximately 500 meters. For adults in good physical condition.
This stay is open to anyone taking pleasure wishing to discover the mountain snowshoe hike away from marked trails. In addition to the technique of snowshoeing and progression in snow-covered mountains, the focus will be on discovering the natural environment and mountain heritage.
An exercise in the use of safety equipment in snow-covered mountains (DVA, shovel and probe) will be put in place on the first day.
Supervision and security
You will be supervised by a mountain guide graduated from the State Certificate of Mountaineering Sport Educator approved as a trainer by ANENA (national association for the study of snow and avalanches) It will be equipped with a VHF radio connected to the emergency room. He will also have a group first aid kit.
You will be equipped with safety equipment (DVA, shovel and probe) and you will learn how to use it during a small exercise.

Extra useful information.
Sunglasses, class 4 protection, a warm hat, sun cream "total screen", a lip stick.
A mountain backpack of about 35 liters. Warm underwear, a fleece or soft shell. A soft shell soft shell type gore tex protecting against rain, snow and cold, a cap. A plastic garbage bag in which you put your laundry. It will stay dry if the backpack is wet. The backpack filled must not exceed 8 kg.
Two pairs of gloves and undergloves and / or mittens.
Pants suitable for walking in the mountains, it must be water repellent and windproof, not too hot (type mountain running pants, no overalls or ski pants (poorly suited to walking and too hot). sticky, under lighter pants.
Hiking shoes suitable for walking in winter. They must have a high stem, be waterproof in the snow and thermal enough to protect you from the cold. A pair of good quality gaiter and good winter socks. No "après-ski" style shoes.
Sheets of bag (bag of meat) for the night (obligatory in shelter), a small towel. A thermos to drink hot and a small gourd for cold water. Food for shopping (cereal bars, dried fruits ...). Small knife, camera, small pharmacy adapted to your personal needs, also containing elastoplast and double skin dressings for possible bulbs. This list is not exhaustive and remains to be completed by you.
The price includes :
- Supervision by a qualified mountain guide. The management of his meals and overnight stays.
