The British Virgin Islands, an unforgettable experience for lovers of boating holidays. A very rich aquatic fauna, coral gardens, canyons, tunnels, caves, wrecks lying on the seabed ... surprises and undiscovered discoveries to the BVI never end.
The British Virgin Islands emerge as Venus from the depths of the ocean: a refuge outside the world made up of sixty islands, islets and reefs on the water, arranged in a crown around the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Five centuries have passed since Columbus sighted them; impressed by the bitter charm of the coasts, the admiral named them Las Once Mil Virgenes, in homage to Saint Ursula and the companions of her martyrdom. And still today, it is as if the vicissitudes of history had passed without a trace on Her Majesty's "virgins". 153 km2 of land, plus 1,489 km2 of territorial waters.
Located in the northeastern portion of the Caribbean, the British Virgin Islands are part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago and lie about 97 km east of Puerto Rico, between the 18th and 19th parallel north of the equator and south of the Tropic of Cancer, like the whole Caribbean Sea. The archipelago has about 60 islands, of which only 16 are inhabited, and most do not exceed the size of coral island bays and outcropping rocks. The most important islands are Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dike and Anegada, plus a small group of islands south of Tortola.
