This experience, in a nutshell

NB: The skipper on board this holiday will be Andrea R. - click here to see his profile

Stromboli is unpredictable, but when he decides to show off, he does it in a unique and wonderful way.

The amazement and the privilege of witnessing one of its eruptions or "explosions" is an experience that can hardly be forgotten.

On full moon nights, the charm of this event that nature offers us is unparalleled. We will have dinner on board our sailboat illuminated by the fire and the moon.

Every week I propose an experience with a different title but with the same common denominator at the base: Nature, Relax, Sport and Fun .

Seven are the Sisters that make up this splendid archipelago located in the North East of Sicily and bathed by the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea. Climatically June and July are the most stable months while August is the most requested and crowded.

Few ports on the islands and with limited availability of berths.

Many, and well sheltered in case of bad weather, are the coves where you can anchor safely with the exception of Alicudi which is the most inaccessible. For reasons of time, the best lap will allow us to see (well) six of the seven islands

SATURDAY - Milazzo
17:00 Boarding of welcome drink and conclusion of the contractual phases.

Following briefing to familiarize yourself with the boat, assimilate some small behavioral rules to keep on board and check the weather conditions to plan the trip well.

Accommodation in the cabin with the luggage (we recommend a soft bag that can be minimized for stowage in a locker) and we decide with our new companions what to buy for the weekly galley.

After the tour of the supermarkets in the area and arranged the food we can relax on board, take part in the aperitif or simply go and explore the beautiful citadel dating back to the Arab period and the medieval village of Milazzo which are all within a radius of 200 meters from the nautical base.

SUNDAY - Lipari and Panarea
The first destination will be the Island of Panarea. We will cover the distance of about 33 miles by making a stop at the beautiful island of Lipari. We will go to moor at the white beach of Pumice (Porticello locality) which is located on the north-east side of the island.

This place characterized by a few meters of seabed (3-4 meters) with a splendid light blue color of the water will make us think that we are inside a huge swimming pool where we will enjoy our first swim. After a few dives and a good swim we leave the island to reach our destination. The arrival at Baia Milazzese (located south-east of the island of Panarea) is expected to be at 5:00 pm.

Enjoying a drink or going dancing on one (or more) of the nearby boats that normally turn into a disco, you will arrive at sunset. Once moored Singles or couples can go and get to know Panarea by Night, dine at "Sushi", continue the Aperitif or dance the night away from the "Raya" Disco to the "Cincotta" terrace.

MONDAY - Panarea and Stromboli
We are in Panarea and in the morning it is pleasant to take a walk through the streets of the center.

During the day you can admire the bright colors of houses, plants and flowers combined with a scent of figs that spreads throughout the country making us know the other side of the less worldly and more natural island.

Night owls will not like waking up early to take a walk to the "Prehistoric Village" (located on the peninsula of Baia Milazzese) but the view from the top of the small promontory could leave them breathless for the beauty of the bright colors that can be admire looking towards the better known "Cala Junco".

Around 11:00 we will head towards the small islets of Lisca Bianca and Lisca Nera. Here you can admire the seabed characterized by the release of sulphurous gases that create fantastic games of bubbles and lights a few meters from the surface. After an invigorating swim we will sail for about 12 miles towards the island of Stromboli to see the small lighthouse in the north of the island built on the rock of "Strombolicchio" where we will arrive at around 16:00.

Numerous divers come to admire the lighthouse wall which rises from a depth of 55 meters to its peak of 49 meters. After a quick visit to the lighthouse (about 200 steps) we will go to moor in the harbor (at anchor) in Punta Lena. For those who love trekking, there is the possibility of organizing an excursion to the Sciara del Fuoco.

The eruption of the volcano which normally occurs, with greater or lesser intensity, about every 30 minutes is certainly a unique spectacle.

TUESDAY - Salina
In the morning we will sail towards the Island of Salina (25 miles) with the first destination being the bay of "Pollara", a location chosen by Troisi to set his film "Il Postino".

However, given the longer distance to cover up to Salina, we will make a short stop along the way in front of the islet of "Basiluzzo", which was built in ancient times by the "Romans". We will do some beautiful swims admiring the seabed that varies from the green / blue of the few meters of water to the intense blue of the high depths, trying to identify the remains of the ancient port before leaving for our destination. ????

Pollara is what remains of the crater of one of the two volcanoes on the island. The bay is beautiful with high walls overlooking the sea that frame a shallow body of water (from 3 to 6 meters) that will allow us to spend the last hours of the morning between snorkeling and ... doing nothing. Around 15:00 the destination will become the mainland for a snack at "Alfredo" to savor the famous "pane cunzato" and its granita (defined by many as the best in all of Sicily). ????

For the evening we can organize dinner on the boat or, for the "live" the island offers several places where you can dine and / or entertain. Subsequently, the “Portobello” piano bar will cheer us up with listening to good music, dances, drinks and entertainment.

WEDNESDAY - Filicudi
In the morning we will try to refill the water tanks at the nearby fuel station and, while we wait, someone could go to have breakfast ashore or a little shopping to "clean up" the galley. At the end of the refueling we will leave for Filicudi.

The miles to go are about 18 and, while we will sail on this stretch of sea, with the equipment on board we will fish something to use as an appetizer or, if we are lucky, catching something bigger, for lunch. Meanwhile, time passes and around 1:00 pm we will arrive on the west side of the island to visit various places of attraction (Grotta del Bue marino, u Perciatu and the rock “La Canna”).

Baths, swims, excursions aboard the tender and it will be time to move towards Capo Graziano strip of land to the east of the island characterized by the presence of shoals and an ideal place for snorkelers .. Anchoring, dinner and ... evening ashore " alive ”in Pecorini a Mare or you can stay on the boat to enjoy the cinema“ on deck ”watching the black sky shine with stars accompanied by the sound of silence and lulled by the waves.

THURSDAY - Lipari
Regenerated by the peace of these places we leave for the next destination that will see us engaged with a sail of about 16 miles to cover in 3 hours until, arrived near the cliffs of the west side of the island of Lipari, we lower the sails.

Between “Punta Palmeto” and “Punta Cugno Lungo” we will be able to moor in splendid bays that will allow us to make excursions aboard our tender to visit the caves and swim in one of the cleanest corners of the Mediterranean.

In the afternoon around 17:00 we leave for the south. Carrying out the circumnavigation of the island to reach the town of Lipari on the opposite side, we will “face” the passage inside the Faraglioni that are located between Lipari and Vulcano before going to moor in Marina Lunga.

Lipari is the largest inhabited center of the islands and, after 4 days spent in the dark (most of the islands visited so far did not have public lighting), you can stroll through the streets of the center full of clubs that also offer "live" music, small shops where you can buy any souvenirs, visit the castle that dominates the main bays of the island or, walking, reach the "square" of Marina Corta where you can admire a suggestive image of the whole.

FRIDAY - Vulcano and Milazzo
Last day of sailing. Starting early, around 08:00, we will head towards the island of Vulcano. ????

The path is short only 4 miles so, after just an hour (just enough time to have breakfast and clean up), we can land on the island to go for a "bath" in the thermal mud pools or we can take a walk about an hour to climb to the top of the Volcano Crater.

While walking, you can pass through some particularly active "fumaroles" so as to make you believe you are in the "underworld"

Returning by boat around 1:00 pm we will head south again to moor south of the island in the very small and splendid bay of Gelso. In a few meters of emerald green water, coming from the reflection of the beautiful seabed of Posidonia, we will take our last swim before returning home.

At around 3:00 pm we will raise the sails for the last time in the direction of Milazzo where the arrival will be at 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm just in time to get fuel before the gas station closes.

SATURDAY - Check Out In Milazzo
Saturday morning before 09:00 (but for those who need to leave earlier also on Friday evening) we will have to leave the boat that hosted us on board for our entire stay, say goodbye to you soon with new friends and comrades in fortune and we will carry out the usual exchange of addresses. On land, all the bureaucratic procedures will be carried out and we will start planning our next sailing trip.

Obviously this is an optimal itinerary but everything could undergo variations because, remember, the routes must always be chosen according to the weather forecast to which the captain will always pay attention to preserve the safety of the crew.

IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS

Before boarding and for greater peace of mind for all participants, the negative result of the examination of a CoVid19 Swab (even quick) carried out within 48 hours before boarding is required.

According to the Government Regulations currently in force (but which could change favorably before our departure) those who share the cabin will have to issue a self-declaration of cohabitation.

Participation in the experience requires registration with the Association and the Sports Card. The cost is already included in the "Extra Mandatory" fee to be paid locally before departure and includes a Basic Sailing Course that we will carry out during the week. Non-competitive medical certificate required, normally issued by the general practitioner.

Skipper meraviglioso!!
