The present page summarizes the main policies about payments, cancellation and refund.
These policies apply to all experiences listed on the platform, with the exception of the experiences where the specific policies of the Crew Leader prevail, as specified in the section “Payment and Cancellation” inside every Experience page, if applicable.

Key terms

Crew Leader: according to this policy, the Crew Leader is defined as a user enabled to list experiences on the platform.

Minimum Crew: it’s the minimum number of people that must participate in an Experience in order for it to be Confirmed. This value is defined by the Crew Leader at the time of the creation of the Experience itself.

Confirmed Experience: is an Experience whose departure has been confirmed by the Crew Leader that organizes it who, therefore, commits him/herself to carry it out.
An Experience can be in Confirmed status since its creation, or switch to Confirmed when it reaches a number of participants equal to the Minimum Crew.
Furthermore, regardless of the number of participants, the Crew Leader can confirm an Experience at any time before departure. When an experience that was not previously confirmed switches to Confirmed, all users on board receive an email notification of such change of state.


Payment scheme

At the time of booking you will be required to pay an amount equal to the price of the Experience, multiplied by the number of selected shares; moreover, any discounts you are entitled to will be deducted from the price, i.e. credits arising from the “reward program”, or from a coupon.

If you make a reservation more than 45 days before the Experience departur date for a total amount of at least 500 Euros, you can choose to pay a deposit of 30% of the share value and pay the balance within 30 days before the departure date.
A handling fee of 25 Euros per reservation is required for this type of payment scheme; please contact our Customer Support in order to benefit from this option.


User cancellation from an experience by the Crew Leader

From the moment you make a reservation for an Experience, the Crew Leader who organizes it has 24 hours time to cancel your reservation. This may happen mainly in the case where the Crew Leader has not updated the availability of spots on board and on Sailsquare a number of available spots higher than actual is shown for the selected Experience.

Sailsquare is a community based on trust and transparency. For this reason, the Crew Leader has always the right to cancel your booking, even after 24 hours from the reservation, in case you have filled in your profile with inaccurate or untrue data (i.e your age or gender, etc.) or you have omitted peculiar needs (i.e. diets, pharmacotherapies, need to bring pets with you, etc.) or physical conditions that may be risky for your safety during navigation.

In the event that the Crew Leader cancels your participation in an experience, you will be fully refunded the amount paid.


Withdrawal by the user

By temporary way of derogation to the policies regulating cancellation and refund:

1. If on the departure date of the booked Experience you are unable to reach the place of embarkation due to regulations issued either by the government of your Country or the Country the place of embarkation belongs to, you can ask for the cancellation of your reservation and you will be entitled to a full refund of the share, even if the Experience is already Confirmed.

2. If you made a reservation for an Experience between April 7, 2020 and Decembre 31, 2020 with a departure date before January 31, 2021, you can ask for the cancellation of your reservation. If the cancellation request is made at least 30 days before the departure date, you will be entitled to a full refund of the share, even if the Experience has already been Confirmed.

In both cases, the refund request will be taken charge with 2 work days and will be carried out on the payment method chosen at the moment of reservation.

You may opt out to participate in an Experience and receive a full refund of the amount paid in case you withdraw before the experience is confirmed.
Otherwise, you don’t have the right to be refunded the paid amount either partially or totally.
In case the Crew Leader confirms the Experience before departure, regardless of the achievement of the minimum crew, you have the right to cancel your booking within 48 hours after receiving the notification email confirming the Experience


Experience cancellation

Experiences can be canceled for the following reasons:

  • failure to achieve the Minimum Crew
    If an Experience doesn’t reach the minimum Crew number or is not confirmed by the Crew Leader within the departure date, the Experience will be cancelled.
  • unavailability of the Crew Leader or technical problems with the boat
    If, for some serious unexpected reason at the time of boarding, the Crew Leader would be unable to carry out the Experience or should the boat have serious technical problems that could prevent your safety, the Experience will be cancelled and you will be fully refunded the amount paid.

Share refund
If an Experience is canceled, you will be fully refunded the amount paid, except in the event that you have previously given up to the Experience.

In no other case, including, for example, reasons of force majeure, bad weather or other factors that prevent the effective carrying out of the planned program, you are entitled to a total or partial refund of the fees you paid.
