The RYA Day Skipper Practical is the ideal course for those who want to sail safely , methodically and independently, acquiring the practical skills required by the internationally recognized RYA standards.

Starting from the Marina di Cala de' Medici, one of the best training camps in the Mediterranean, you will experience 5 intensive days of training on board our boat, supported by qualified instructors who will guide you step by step, in real sea and in authentic operating conditions.

Conduct of the RYA Day Skipper Practical course

The course takes place from Monday to Friday, based at the Marina di Cala de' Medici, entirely on board the boat.

During the 5 days of activity, the students participate in intensive practical training, alternating coastal navigation, sailing and motor exercises and moments of briefing and debriefing with the instructor.

The aim of this course is to convey to the student all the notions necessary to drive the boat safely.

The program includes:

- preparation of the boat and navigation planning

- sailing and motor management

- mooring and anchoring maneuvers

-Safety and crew management

-navigation

-Assessment of weather conditions and decision making as a skipper

Training is continuous and progressive, with the active involvement of each participant.

At the end of the course, if the required level is reached, the RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate will be issued.

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions and/or technical or logistical reasons, in order to ensure safety and a pleasant sailing experience for all participants.

It was our first time on a sailing boat and, although the weather allowed us to do only a day tour staying on the coast, it was still a new and interesting experience. I understand the fact that weather and wave conditions are not easy to predict well in advance and that no one has the power of arbitrariness of them, but we would have appreciated a more proactive attitude on the part of the skipper in managing the starts. And above all, we would have preferred more clarity from the outset on the fact that, in the event of rough seas, the journey could have been reduced to a stay in the port of Rosignano or a simple day trip along the coast, without reaching the islands. Being 9 plus the skipper, the spaces were sometimes a bit tight, especially during meals. I believe that greater attention to the organization of the kitchen, common areas and lockers could make the holiday even more comfortable for everyone. Overall it was a good experience, with some organizational aspects that, with small tricks, could be improved.
