The Autonomy course is designed to consolidate or improve the basics of safe navigation.

The goal is to provide you with the right tools to become a good commander over the course of a very intensive 4-day program.

With the experience of our instructors, we have structured a route with the utmost attention to safety, from the check-in of the boat to the planning of coastal itineraries.

From the control of weather and sea conditions to the ability to make appropriate decisions even in emergencies.

The topics that will be covered in the 4 days will be the following:

• Safety on board and health regulations
• The role of captain: ship's documents, check-in, official communications, VHF use.
• Plan your navigation, make decisions, use on-board tools
• Sailing rigging training and refresher
• Practice communication in the role of commander
• Weather and sea conditions control
• Mooring and unmooring
• Main rules for preventing collisions, rules for safe navigation
• Document and contract management
• Usage (general) of the on-board VHF radio
• Navigation
• Night Piloting Exercises
• Buoy and/or anchor socket, night at anchor if possible
• Return sail with the use of electronic aids
• Surveys
• Debriefing

We will meet on Saturday morning at 09:00 to start the activity.

We will organize the boat for departure, make a galley and immediately see the first notions of safety and weather routage.

We will set sail around lunchtime to start the sailing manoeuvres and then (if the weather permits) sail straight to Capraia or the Island of Elba.

It will be 4 days full of notions, wind and sea!

In order to participate, a non-competitive sports medical certificate is required and registration with the AICS body for insurance at a cost of € 30 payable by bank transfer or by boat at the start of the course.
