This experience, in a nutshell

Fantastic navigation from Syracuse to the Aeolian Islands passing by the Etna Volcano, navigation in the suggestive Strait of Messina with stops at: Taormina, Scilla, Lipari island and landing on the island of Vulcano about 120 miles.

A nice experience for those who want to visit both the east coast of Sicily and the Aeolian Islands.

Our itinerary

Our trip starts here:

Syracuse.

Leg 1

Monday

Boarding from 19:30 onwards in Syracuse Porto Grande, accommodation in the cabin, short brifing, and down for a tasty dinner in a typical restaurant of Syracuse (island of Ortigia) and visit of the beautiful island of Ortigia historic center of Syracuse.

Leg 2

Tuesday

The adventure begins after a hearty breakfast, we hoist the sails and head towards Taormina, about 50 miles of navigation. Once in Taormina visit of the historic center of the renowned Taormina, dinner on the boat or on land we will decide together and overnight stay in the harbor in the bay of Taormina.

Leg 3

Wednesday

Departure from Taormina, we will sail in the suggestive Strait of Messina and arrive in Scilla, a fantastic village where we can visit the historic center of the town, admire the traditional swordfish fishing with the felucca (a boat used by Messina and Calabrians for swordfish fishing unique in the world), and we will enjoy the legendary swordfish sandwich. About 60 miles of navigation.

Leg 4

Thursday

We hoist the sails towards the Aeolian Islands Lipari about 30 miles of navigation. We will spend the day visiting the most beautiful bays of Lipari, in the evening we land at the port of Lipari to visit the island.

Leg 5

Friday

Departure for the island of Vulcano, during the day we will make stops and swim in the various bays of the island of Vulcano and in the afternoon we will land in Marina di Vulcanello, the more adventurous can trek to the crater of the Volcano, the others can take a relaxing bath in the famous sulphurous waters of the island of Vulcano. At sunset everyone in Baia Negra to admire one of the most beautiful sunsets. In the evening we can visit the village and enjoy a delicious ice cream at Remiggio.

Saturday

Unfortunately the adventure ends, kisses and hugs and goodbye to the next adventure.

🚗 By car
Driving along the Italian motorway network, you can reach Sicily via the Strait of Messina: from northern and central Italy, take the A1 to Villa San Giovanni (RC) and board the vehicle on the ferries to Messina; crossing about 20-30 minutes. From Messina continue on the A18 towards Catania and then follow the SS114/coastal state roads south to Syracuse; from Catania the distance is about 60-70 km, approximate travel time 50-70 minutes. From Palermo, follow the A19 Palermo-Catania and then the junction towards the east coast; distance Palermo-Syracuse about 250-270 km, estimated driving time 3-4 hours depending on the route. Always indicate the port of embarkation if the trip includes the crossing of the Strait of Messina.

🚆 By train
The reference station is the Syracuse Station; the regional line connects Syracuse to Catania (regional trains with average times 50-70 minutes) and continues towards Messina. Trenitalia operates regional connections and some InterCity/InterCity Night connections from the continent that cross the Strait of Messina with the transfer to the ferry; times vary according to the type of train: Palermo-Syracuse generally 31/2-41/2 hours with changes or direct connections sometimes longer, Rome-Syracuse on intercity/night trains around 10-12 hours depending on connections and the need to transfer on ferry to Villa San Giovanni for the final part of the route.

✈️ By plane
The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa (CTA), about 60-70 km from Syracuse; transfers are made by taxi, car rental, private transfers or by combining the airport service with the train / bus from Catania Centrale, approximate times 45-75 minutes by car and 60-90 minutes by public transport depending on the connections. Other useful airports are Comiso (CIY), about 100 km away, and Palermo (PMO), about 250-270 km away; from the terminal you can continue by car rental, long-distance bus or train to Catania and then by regional train or road to Syracuse.

Beautiful experience. I started with a bit of anxiety due to the fact that I had to share small spaces with unknown people for a not exactly short period of time, but above all for having been my first time on a sailing boat. Despite everything, however, I did not lose heart and thanks to the great experience of the skipper Sergio (a real sea dog) and his partner I was able to appreciate the fantastic sensations that the sea can give. The only regret was that I had to end this magnificent experience, against all my will, knowing that I had a new place in my heart!

WONDERFUL WEEK. SERGIO AND CARMEN WERE TRULY EXCEPTIONAL. THEIR PROFESSIONALISM WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS HOLIDAY. ATTENTIVE, PRECISE AND SCRUPULOUS WITH THE WHOLE CREW. THE BOAT COZY AND WELL MAINTAINED. YOU DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE HOLIDAY WITH THEM. SHE IS SUNNY AND VERY EMPATHETIC. HE IS SCHOVO AND SOMETIMES A LITTLE STRICT... BUT I WOULD SAY SIMPLY PRACTICAL.
