Piombino can be reached by road from the A12 motorway network (Genoa-Livorno-Rosignano) and via the SGC Florence-Pisa-Livorno (FI-PI-LI) for those coming from Florence; from the A1 continue towards Florence and then on the FI-PI-LI. From the A12 motorway, exit at Rosignano or Vada and continue on the SS1 (Aurelia) southbound until the exits for Piombino; from the south (Rome) take the A12 northbound and take the SS1 towards Piombino. For those arriving from the interior of Tuscany it is possible to use the SR398 / SP to Venturina and continue on the SP to Piombino; For the islands it is not possible to continue by car beyond the port without boarding. Approximate travel times: Pisa 1 hour approximately, Florence 1 h 45-2 h and Rome 3 h 30-4 h depending on traffic.

The reference station is Piombino Marittima, a railway terminal adjacent to the port; on the main artery there is a connection with Campiglia Marittima (Tyrrhenian line) where changes are made with regional and inter-regional trains; services are operated by Trenitalia (regional). Approximate times: from Pisa Centrale about 1 h 10-1 h 30 with a change in Campiglia Marittima, from Florence Santa Maria Novella about 2 h 15-2 h 45 with one or more changes, from Livorno 40-60 min; trains reach the Piombino Marittima railway platform, a short walk from the piers.

✈️ By plane
The nearest airports are Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) and Florence Peretola (FLR); from Pisa the transfer by road takes about 1 h-1 h 15, while the train connection from Pisa Centrale to Piombino Marittima, with a change in Campiglia Marittima, takes 1 h 30-2 h; from Florence the transfer by road takes 1 h 45-2 h 15, by train about 2 h 15-2 h 45 with changes. Car rental and taxi services are available at the two airports; from the main low-cost and scheduled airlines you can reach Pisa with national and international flights, then continue by train or road to Piombino.

The port of Piombino (Piombino Marittima piers) is the starting and finishing point for connections with the Island of Elba; the main lines connect Piombino to Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo. The main operating companies are Moby, Toremar and Blu Navy; the average crossing times are to Portoferraio: ferry 1 h-1 h 30 and hydrofoil 35-50 min; for Rio Marina and Cavo the times are shorter. The services include both vehicle and passenger embarkation, with ticket offices and docks dedicated to Piombino Marittima.

The skipper helps out, but meal preparation is a shared activity among all participants in the experience.

Travelling light is recommended: especially in summer, when you will almost exclusively be wearing swimwear, T-shirts, and shorts on the boat during the day. A sweatshirt and long pants for the evening may be sufficient in the height of summer, while something warmer is preferable in the cooler months, as well as a waterproof windbreaker in case of bad weather or when sailing. Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun, flip-flops/sandals for going ashore; if you want to wear shoes on board - especially useful when sailing - they must have white soles and be used only on the boat. It may also be useful to bring a small waterproof container for your wallet/cell phone to use when going ashore. For bed linen and towels, please refer to the “What's included” section.

Hair dryers, hair straighteners, and other appliances that operate on 220V (household voltage) can only be used during stops in ports, when a power outlet is available for connection to the electrical grid.

A soft bag is required for transporting luggage, so that it can be easily stowed away. Hard suitcases and trolleys should be avoided, as they are difficult, if not impossible, to stow. A small backpack or beach bag may be useful for shore excursions.

If you reserve the entire boat for yourself, the detailed itinerary can be agreed upon with the skipper. Otherwise, changes can be agreed upon as long as all participants on board agree.

Yes, but outside the boat and downwind, and always with full respect for the other participants. Under no circumstances is it permitted to throw cigarette butts into the sea.

The boat is equipped with both 12V sockets (with USB and/or cigarette lighter connectors) that can normally be used at any time, and 220V sockets that can only be used when docked in ports, once connected to the charging stations on the quay.
