This experience, in a nutshell

Starting from the Tuscan Archipelago Marina in Piombino, easily accessible by car with the possibility of free parking, we will set sail to discover Capraia and Elba.

During the navigation we will have the opportunity to spot dolphins and engage in some deep-sea fishing, enjoying the open sea. We will visit unspoiled coves such as Cala del Ceppo and Cala Rossa, immersing ourselves in transparent waters surrounded by wild landscapes, and we will land in characteristic ports where we can admire the colorful houses on the water and enjoy excellent aperitifs.

Among the coves and bays of Elba such as Cala Viticcio, the Gulf of Procchio and the Paolina, we will experience days of relaxation and exploration, concluding the sail on the beach of Sansone before returning to Piombino.

An unforgettable experience between sea, nature and unique views that will remain in the heart.

Our itinerary

On Thursday 30/04 boarding is scheduled in the afternoon so that we can organize the galley and, weather permitting, set sail for Marciana Marina (Elba) where we will spend the night in port.

On Friday 01/05 we will set sail towards Capraia, Our first stop in Capraia will be the beautiful and unspoiled Cala del Ceppo . In the late afternoon we will enter the port, which will envelop us in the colors of its colorful houses that overlook the quay, its bars, places to enjoy excellent aperitifs and shops.

On Saturday 02/05 we will go to discover Capraia from the sea along the coast, we will arrive at Cala Rossa, which will enrapture us with its intense colors. We will then head for the Island of Elba where we will arrive in the early afternoon: Cala Viticcio, the Gulf of Procchio or the Paolina will welcome us with their wonderful waters. In the evening we will move to Portoferraio where we will spend the night in the port.

On Sunday 03/05 we will enjoy a natural awakening after which we will head towards the beach of Sansone where we will have lunch. In the poeriggio we will set sail for Piombino

🚗 By car

Piombino can be reached by road from the A12 motorway network (Genoa-Rosignano) and via the SGC Florence-Pisa-Livorno (FI-PI-LI) for those coming from Florence; from the A1 continue towards Florence and take the FI-PI-LI. From the A12 exit at Rosignano or Vada and continue on the SS1 Aurelia southbound until the exits for Piombino; from the south (Rome) take the A12 northwards and take the SS1. Those coming from the interior of Tuscany can use the SR398 / SP to Venturina and continue towards Piombino center. From the city, a short taxi transfer or transfer to the marinas from which cruises depart. Approximate travel times: Pisa 1 h approximately, Florence 1 h 45–2 h, Rome 3 h 30–4 h depending on traffic.

🚆 By train

The nearest railway station is Piombino-Centro, connected to the Tyrrhenian line through Campiglia Marittima. Regional and interregional trains are operated by Trenitalia. Approximate times: from Pisa Centrale about 1 h 10–1 h 30 with a change in Campiglia Marittima, from Florence Santa Maria Novella about 2 h 15–2 h 45 with one or more changes, from Livorno about 40–60 min. From the Piombino–Centro station it is necessary to take a short taxi or walk to the marinas for boarding the cruises.

✈️ By plane

The nearest airports are Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) and Florence Peretola (FLR). From Pisa the transfer by road to Piombino center takes about 1 h–1 h 15, while by train from Pisa Centrale with change in Campiglia Marittima about 1 h 30–2 h. From Florence the transfer by road takes about 1 h 45–2 h 15, by train about 2 h 15–2 h 45 with a change in Campiglia Marittima. Both airports have car rental and taxi services. From the city of Piombino it is necessary to transfer to the marinas of embarkation.

⛴️ By ferry/hydrofoil

The tourist ports of Piombino offer connections with the Island of Elba, with direct lines to Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo. The main operating companies are Moby, Toremar and Blu Navy; Average crossing times vary from 35 minutes to 1 hr 30, depending on the route and the type of vessel. The services include both vehicle and passenger-only boarding, with dedicated ticket offices and docks in the marinas.

Negative experience, the weather conditions forced us to return to the port in Piombino for 3 nights. The heavy rain created inconvenience for us because the water entered the cabins, wetting the mattresses. We have some doubts about the behavior of Captain Paolo starting from the lack of assistance in making galleys to retracing the same stretch of coast of the island of Elba 2 times and spending 3 nights at anchor in Porto Azzurro. On the last day we sailed only for a stretch returning to Piombino. More than a sailing holiday, it was motorized. We hope to be luckier in the future.
