Canary Islands: 2 stunning places and sailing routes

Lanzarote

With 5 ports and 1.700 berths in its seven harbors this island has still has an uncontaminated nature, with beaches of all kinds with some similarities with African landscapes and a turquoise pure sea. The sailing conditions are good (trade winds are the prevailing especially from May to August) and life is not expensive. Puerto Calero should be at the top of your list: with all the facilities is a great sailing area, while if your are looking for local anchorages: Bahia de Arrecife, Guaimeta, Isla de Alegranza, Isla de La Gracious, Isla de Lobos, Playas de Papagayo and Playa Quemeda. Some must see attractions are: Cesar Marine Foundation, built into an old lava field, that exhibits Picasso, Millares, Tàpies and many others and Timanfaya National park, with extraordinary rock formations. The best place for the shopping and souvenirs are the ancient capital Teguise and Arrecife.

Fuerteventura

Puerto de Cooralejo is a busy port and popular with tourist for its excellent windsurfing and kitesurfing: the golden dunes beach, one of the best, stretches for six miles and borders a national park. Very close is Isla Lobos a nature reserve, where the snorkeling is great! A quiet area is Puerto de Gran Tarajal with a nice and rare beach of black sand to the north-east. Beach with good anchorages are Playa de Guinijimar and Lajita, protected from the winds and with delicious restaurants for few hours of rest and relaxation. In Fuerteventura there are many attractions and things to do: you can go biking, hiking or fishing, but here goats rule: a very delicious and popular food is cheese! If you want to learn from other cultures you need to visit the Salt Museum a really attractive location and the Centro de Arte Canario that offers many cultural activities and unique art works of Canary islands. Finally you are in a Unesco Biosphere reserve, there is a lot to know about nature but if you prefer to taste some wine there are also sensational wineries and top restaurants. Gran Canaria: with its wonderful coasts and ports spread along the coastline, ideal for repairs, that accommodate boats of any length, your sailing trip will be an incomparable experience: you are in a place where great sailors have trained to cross the ocean, so it will be easy to find all the facilities you need. While you crew will have fun surfing the waves you will do amongst dolphins! Here there are almost 27 different species so drop your anchor and have fun! Las Palmas is the largest marina of Canary islands and offer many facilities. If you are an explorer there are some magical secret places to visit: Roque Nublo, a rock formation with a lunar landscape as well as Guayandeque Ravine; the desert of Dunas de Maspalomas in the South and the Bandama, a volcanic crater, point of geological interest that reaches 569 meters above the sea level. Unfortunately there is a lot to see, because the island houses 21 municipalities but unavoidable are the Bélen Arena, the most popular city San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Santa Brigida, a rural paradise, where are numerous vineyards, bars and fine restaurants. Tenerife: finally you will find some pleasant and quiet beaches to relax and natural Canary wonders to visit before setting sails. For lovers of nature, outdoor activities, great heights and hiking on the northeastern coast there is Anaga, a huge green valley, that is the oldest part of the island, while Los Gigantes are cliffs that drop vertically on the sea, with a nice seaside town and Masca valley is a jewel hidden in the mountains.
