This experience, in a nutshell

Departure and return to Tahiti

We will start precisely from Puna'auia, a town located in the suburbs of Papeʻete, Tahiti, in French Polynesia.

Departing from Tahiti, let's head for the immense Tuamotu archipelago.

Given the size of this maritime territory, the sailboat's remarkable performance and robustness make it the best ally for sailing safely and optimizing travel times between ports of call in order to discover more.

Stages of the cruise

  • Tikehau — The Natural Aquarium - Considered the richest fish-rich atoll in the Tuamotus, Tikehau is home to a great diversity of tropical fish, manta rays, as well as the Bird Island. Its pink sand beaches, unique in the world, complete this exceptional picture.

  • Rangiroa — The Immense Sky - A must-see stopover, Rangiroa is the largest atoll in French Polynesia and the second largest in the world. Its inner lagoon is so vast that you can't make out the other shore. It offers extraordinary dives, allowing you to observe sharks, dolphins and napoleon wrasse.

  • Fakarava — Mecca of Scuba Diving - Located 488 km northeast of Tahiti, this 60 km long and 25 km wide atoll is home to a classified biosphere reserve. There are several world-famous dive sites, as well as many opportunities for snorkeling, sightseeing and relaxation.

  • Toau — The Secret Gem - Toau, the neighboring atoll of Fakarava, is connected by the Otugi pass, which also offers spectacular diving. The atoll allows preserved anchorages where the marine fauna evolves in peace.

  • Apataki — The Rectangular Atoll - Located 370 km northeast of Tahiti, Apataki has a lagoon of 706 km² accessible by two navigable passes. Like other atolls, it is home to renowned pearl farms and unspoilt seabeds.

Further suggestion

When conditions allow, we often choose to start or end the cruise with a stop in Moorea. This offers an overview of the varied treasures of French Polynesia, thanks to a topography similar to that of Tahiti, richer in reliefs than that of the Tuamotu and close to its neighbours in the Society Islands.

Navigation

On the sailing side, a cruise in the Tuamotu is optimal conditions for:

  • Surfing on regular trade winds of 10 to 25 knots, perfect for this powerful monohull.
  • Immerse yourself in the maritime environment, ideal for concentrating and accelerating the learning of sail trimming and meteorological understanding.
  • Quickly become autonomous in the management of the passage passages and anchorages specific to this unique archipelago.

Hervé is an experienced skipper who has allowed me as a novice to have a real sailing experience in complete safety. The mix was perfect between sailing, manoeuvres, swimming and culinary pleasures. The boat is very comfortable and we very quickly felt at home (but on the water) I highly recommend if you want to participate in a collective sailing adventure
