This experience, in a nutshell

Limnos, (Lemnos) with its castle, Efstratios: the Greek Ventotene, and then Panangia, Alonissos, Skopelos and Skiatos these are the islands that we will touch on this fast, fascinating journey.

Starting from the large, deep bay of Limnos and leaving the beautiful bay of Mirina, we will stop in the small, solitary Agios Efstratios , now a rare example of authentic Greece not yet influenced by mass tourism. Due to its distance from the mainland, it was chosen by the Greek dictatorial regimes as a place to deport political "dissidents", especially communists or trade unionists, but also intellectuals, journalists, writers, since the 1920s, and which remained a place of political confinement until the early 1960s. Exactly like in the Italian Ventotene during fascism. At least 5000 people, perhaps many more, suffered that fate. The visit to the Museum of Democracy was touching, recalling that terrible past.

With a bit of nostalgia, we'll cross the stretch of sea that separates it from the Sporades, a magnificent archipelago in northern Greece. We will discover some of the many wonderful beaches and bays of Kira Panagia, Alonissos, Skiatos and Skopelos where woods plunge into the sea. Many of which were made famous by the film Mamma Mia.

Kira, Panagia and Peristera are the first islands of the Northern Sporades archipelago that we will encounter. Alonissos, which we will visit immediately after, is the wildest of the archipelago: a true paradise for lovers of nature, unspoiled bays and traditional cultures. Patiriri, which means wine press, is the main center.

In its museum full of ancient nautical charts and traditional costumes there is also a rare collection of pirate weapons. Skopelos: a mosaic of pine forests, olive groves, vineyards has kept the view almost intact and the quiet and welcoming rhythm that has made it delightful and a favorite set for film directors. Skiatos, with its beautiful white sandy beaches framed by hills covered with pine trees and olive groves, is wonderful.

Our itinerary

Our itinerary of about 108 miles will be an exciting slalom between beautiful islands of the Northern Sporades archipelago, among the most beautiful in Greece: Limnos, Agiostrati, Panagia, Alonissos, Skopelos - Alonissos -Skiatos. It is no coincidence that films such as Mamma Mia were filmed here.

All beautiful, all rich in history and dreamy bays.

Not to be missed: the necropolis of Limnos, the beautiful beaches, the colorful domes overlooking dreamlike landscapes. The marine park of Alonissos. the heart bays of Kira Panaya

Are you early? Do you have an extra day off? Here's what to do on land: in Skoplelos it is interesting to go around the monasteries perched on the slopes of Mount Palouki also to enjoy the wonderful view they offer. In the second town of the island, Glossa is a beautiful group of white houses that descend from the hill. Bellissimo is Capo Amarandos where several movie scenes were filmed.

The itinerary may be subject to changes due to weather conditions and/or technical or logistical reasons, in order to ensure safety and a pleasant sailing experience for all participants.

Great sailing from Athens to Mykonos in the Cyclades

Riccardo is a good person but the boat was not prepared to welcome guests, particularly in terms of cleanliness and order. Some episodes, which by an expert person should and could have been predicted and dealt with calmly, generated unnecessary anxiety (lack of fuel in the tender, staysail rigged at the last minute in critical circumstances, disorderly mooring and unmooring maneuvers, instructions to the crew not given sufficiently in advance and clarity, etc.). A general perception of approximation has generated a feeling of insecurity and discomfort which has unfortunately negatively affected the serenity and enjoyment of the holiday.

Great sailing from Athens to Mykonos in the Cyclades

I participated in a week on a sailing boat with high expectations, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing in many ways. First of all, the spaces on board were extremely limited: I had to sleep outside every night due to the lack of comfort inside and I was not the only one to do so. In addition, the boat turned out to be quite dirty and poorly maintained, which negatively affected the stay. The skipper, although probably with years of navigation behind him, seemed to me not very suitable for this type of experience. In addition to obvious communication difficulties (he often did not hear), he completely lacked initiative. He seemed more on vacation than us: he didn't help with daily activities, and in general he didn't make himself useful, behaving more like a guest than like a person on board. From a technical point of view, I didn't feel particularly confident. The skipper, in my opinion, no longer had the physical strength necessary to manage the maneuvers: in seven days we opened the sails only twice, and always with great caution, out of fear. On a sailing holiday, you would expect to... sail. A real shame, because the company and the sea were wonderful. But with different and more professional management, the experience could have been totally different. I hope that the organization will think seriously about these aspects.

Athens, Delphi, Patras and the excitement of the Corinth Canal

The trip was very nice, we were able to visit Delphi which for me was the best part of the trip. Riccardo is a good person and a good sailor, but he hardly speaks English or French, which was a problem when it came to communicating with us and with the marinas. He could not understand his instructions and became very nervous when performing the maneuvers. I should have specified that you need some experience to travel with him. He gets very nervous and starts shouting in Italian. He is quite old, I think he would have to sail alone in Italy, which is his comfort zone. The boat is small ideal for 4. To be honest, I don't think I'll travel with him again. But Greece is wonderful
