This experience, in a nutshell

Sailing starting from an alternative Sardinia, the Gulf of Orosei, to arrive at the more exclusive one of the Maddalena archipelago. Boarding is in Arbatax, a lively town on the east coast that can be reached directly by ferry or plane flying to Olbia. From here you can explore the coves of the Gulf of Orosei, Cala Luna, Goloritze, Mariolu, some of the most evocative and impressive scenery in the world, transparent water framed by majestic cliffs overlooking the sea bordered by white beaches. Stop in Cala Gonone, a real Sardinian tourist resort, then head towards Caletta, San Teodoro, Capo coda Cavallo and the islands of Tavolara and Molara, majestic and exclusive, reachable only from the sea. We continue north and, without realizing it, we enter another scenario.

The Maddalena archipelago looks like this, between rocks sculpted by the wind and colors that turn pink, with some of the most iconic beaches on the island.

The journey ends in Cannigione, the side and less obvious gateway to the Costa Smeralda. But at that point the feeling is clear: more than a route, it was a crossing into two different Sardinias, united only by the sea.

The French Riviera in winter is an experience to try if we then add a very prepared skipper and crew of beautiful people I could not wish for more, and then the weather gave us a big hand

The experience overall was good! It would have been appreciated, though, if I had been informed somewhat in advance that I was the only one who wasn’t Italian, and with the change of skipper, nobody involved with the boat spoke a word of English. Only the “guests” did, which was of course great as they kindly translated things for me, but it still made the situation uncomfortable. Since everyone naturally spoke the same language, all conversations were in Italian - which I understand but unless I asked for a translation, I didn’t really know what was happening and I was naturally excluded from conversations which wasn’t the best feeling. It also felt a bit strange to be regulated on when we were allowed to use the bathroom or take a shower (mostly never). As a first-timer on a boat, I was also a little shocked that, due to the bad weather, we almost had to pay an extra €500 on top of the original fees just to stay in the harbour and for food. I understand the food part, but a heads-up beforehand would have been really helpful, especially that in case of bad weather, nothing is included in the price and everything extra has to be paid separately on top. That being said, everyone was very kind and there were no issues otherwise.
