review about A holiday to discover the small islands of the Dodecanese September 2022
with Emanuel & Annalisa . 60 years old
This trip is suitable for those who want to do some sailing as the island of Astypalea is close to the Cyclades, with which it shares the barren appearance, the windmills, the villages of very white houses, the crystalline waters and the beautiful beaches, but much less crowded, fortunately.
We will sail in the Aegean with a close-hauled/beam wind to reach the butterfly-shaped island, and once we reach our destination, we will explore its bays and wild beaches, secret anchorages, enjoying this distant paradise for a few days from the routes and the nearby uninhabited islets.
The itinerary includes a lot of sailing, life on the sea and abandoning oneself to the slow life of the island which has made simplicity and well-being its stylistic hallmark. Electric cars, bicycles, attention to food prepared with traditional local ingredients and attention to raw materials. In the evening, the kafenions await us, boutiques where you can buy beautiful handicrafts and local items for dinner and after dinner.
On the way back we will meet two volcanic islands: Nysiros and Gialos, each with its land and sea treasures.
Traveling is also knowing the culture through its cuisine and the Dodecanese is a treasure trove of flavours, a little Mediterranean and a little Middle Eastern: thyme honey, wild aromatic herbs, vegetables prepared in many different ways, goat cheeses and olive oil locally produced olives, meats spiced with cinnamon and cumin, freshly caught fish and octopuses hung out to dry in the sun. We will eat both on the boat , having fun together in the kitchen (we like to cook for our guests) and on land in family-run taverns , ouzeries or restaurants where tradition meets innovation.
Emanuel and Annalisa, both skippers and enthusiasts of the most authentic Greece, will share places and little treasures of these wonderful islands with you.

For a week this will be your home on the water and we will do everything to make it as welcoming as possible.
NAVIGATION
When sailing, the cutter-rigged boat is well equipped to face all wind conditions in the best possible way with two stays, one for a 20m2 jib for upwind sailing up to 25/30 knots and the other for a 50m2 genoa for the carrying gaits. It also has a gennaker and a North Sails mainsail with two reefs to reduce the sail if necessary. All running rigging is led back to the cockpit for maximum safety and clearly marked to facilitate the participation of the crew in running the boat.
COMFORT ON BOARD
The cockpit is sheltered from the sun and rain by a bimini that is always open even when cruising and a sprayhood with a central window. The teak benches are equipped with cushions to improve seating comfort. The large table with opening wings and icebox is perfect for “sea view” dining. Do not miss the stern barbecue with which Emanuel prepares wonderful fish and/or meat based dinners. The large sunbathing areas, the aft platform for diving and the hot water shower are ideal for enjoying life at sea.
Inside, the boat has three cabins for guests and one for the crew, and three bathrooms, two of which have an electric toilet. The cabins have a double bed, wardrobe, reading lights and USB ports for recharging your mobile phone. They are sanitized at each crew change and prepared for arriving guests with a bed already made and equipped with bathroom linen and beach towel.
The dinette is large and bright with a table that can accommodate up to ten people comfortably seated on the sofas.
The kitchen area is equipped with a three-burner hob, an oven, two refrigerators, a double sink and ample space for preparing and storing food and drinks. All the crockery is in porcelain and the glasses in crystal, to reduce the consumption of plastic. We practice separate collection.
SERVICES
530 lt water tank / 220V electricity (if attached in port) / 12V (in navigation) / 2 solar panels / 1200Watt inverter / 4 gel batteries for services and 1 for the Volvo Penta 55 HP engine.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Self-inflating raft over 12 miles / Life jackets for adults and children / Flares / First aid kit / Ring finger / Binoculars / Fire extinguishers.

How to get
The quickest way to reach Kos is by plane with a direct flight or with a stopover in Athens (Ryanair, Easy Jet, Aegean, Volotea, Sky Express, Olympic Airways). Boarding is in Kos City in the old port or in Kardamena, depending on the weather conditions and the availability of moorings (will be communicated). Kardamena is 10 minutes from the airport, Kos City 40 minutes. Both cities can be reached by taxi or public transport (http://www.ktel-kos.gr/site_en/ktel-kos-local-bus-schedules). Alternatively you can take the ferry from Piraeus, the port of Athens, to the island of Kos.
Things to know before booking
The cabins are all with shared double beds so if you travel alone and you like having the cabin all to yourself or if you have a large build, you can contact us in the chat to get an offer on the double room for exclusive use.
For families with children we recommend the rental of the complete boat.
Smoking is prohibited inside the boat, while outside in moderation and always downwind ;)
It is customary for the skipper to be a guest at the restaurant (if invited).
