This experience, in a nutshell

The long weekend of June 2 between sea, sport and relaxation in company. Five days to disconnect and recharge the batteries. The long weekend of June 2 will be the right middle ground, between the short weekend and the week, to fully enjoy unique islands such as Elba and Capraia.

We will head for the Island of Elba, the largest of the archipelago, with its 147 km of coastline where the most diverse landscapes alternate with delightful villages and dreamy views!

And su Capraia, an authentic pearl in the middle of the sea, a natural and wild reserve for 90% of its territory, is a treasure trove of biodiversity and unique naturalistic riches.

This period of the season is magical for sailing, the water begins to have the temperature that invites you to take a good swim and the days are long, we are now at the gates of summer with unique shows of colors and scents. And the great privilege of being able to enjoy it from a unique point of view, that of the sailboat!

Our base will be the new marina of Piombino, the port a few miles from the Island of Elba, it is easy to reach by car and therefore the ideal starting point for our trips.

After arranging our belongings in the cabin and the galley, we will immediately set off sailing at sunset towards the island of Elba. Our itinerary will be dictated by the weather, depending on the forecast we will decide which route to follow, which part of the island to visit and whether to spend the nights at anchor or in port.

The itineraries can satisfy both the most experienced and those approaching the world of sailing for the first time. On board everyone will be able to learn the basics of sailing and participate in maneuvers. They will be days of sport, relaxation, nature and fun in company.

Our itinerary

The map is purely indicative, our itinerary will be dictated by the weather, based on that we will decide which way to start the tour and which route to follow.

Once the cabins have been assigned and the galley has been arranged, we will leave immediately for the island.

To the north, in addition to the intriguing capital of the island, Portoferraio, rich in history and charm, we can sail in the beautiful gulfs of Viticcio, Biodola and Procchio, visit Marciana Marina and San Andrea, delightful seaside villages with restaurants and typical shops.

Past Punta Polveraia we will then be in the western part of the island, the wildest and most unspoiled area, the steep rocky walls and the beautiful seabed guide us to discover places such as Pomonte, a stop at the wreck is mandatory, and going down again we arrive at the spectacular beach of Fetovaia.

Continuing on, you enter the beautiful south side of Elba, with its three large gulfs: Marina di Campo, Lacona and Golfo Stella. All three are different and fascinating in their own way, we can find all kinds of seabeds, beautiful villages to explore and even old abandoned mines such as those of Capoliveri in Punta dei Rialti.

Rounding Punta dei Rialti we are to the east which is certainly no less and offers us other beauties of nature such as the islets of Ortano and Palmaiola or the large gulf of Porto Azzurro, we can give them again and go ashore to visit the town, the most chic on the island! Going up we then find ancient mining villages such as Rio Marina and Cavo.

The navigation to Capraia will be a real crossing, We will then cover the 20 miles that separate us from the island with our eyes wide open because we will pass right in the middle of the cetacean sanctuary and, if we are lucky, they will come to greet us. After about 4 hours we will land on this unique island with its magical perched village and the wild and unspoiled atmosphere that characterizes it.

🚗 By car

Piombino can be reached by road from the A12 motorway network (Genoa-Rosignano) and via the SGC Florence-Pisa-Livorno (FI-PI-LI) for those coming from Florence; from the A1 continue towards Florence and take the FI-PI-LI. From the A12 exit at Rosignano or Vada and continue on the SS1 Aurelia southbound until the exits for Piombino; from the south (Rome) take the A12 northwards and take the SS1. Those coming from the interior of Tuscany can use the SR398 / SP to Venturina and continue towards Piombino center. From the city, a short taxi transfer or transfer to the marinas from which cruises depart. Approximate travel times: Pisa 1 h approximately, Florence 1 h 45–2 h, Rome 3 h 30–4 h depending on traffic.

🚆 By train

The nearest railway station is Piombino-Centro, connected to the Tyrrhenian line through Campiglia Marittima. Regional and interregional trains are operated by Trenitalia. Approximate times: from Pisa Centrale about 1 h 10–1 h 30 with a change in Campiglia Marittima, from Florence Santa Maria Novella about 2 h 15–2 h 45 with one or more changes, from Livorno about 40–60 min. From the Piombino–Centro station it is necessary to take a short taxi or walk to the marinas for boarding the cruises.

✈️ By plane

The nearest airports are Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) and Florence Peretola (FLR). From Pisa the transfer by road to Piombino center takes about 1 h–1 h 15, while by train from Pisa Centrale with change in Campiglia Marittima about 1 h 30–2 h. From Florence the transfer by road takes about 1 h 45–2 h 15, by train about 2 h 15–2 h 45 with a change in Campiglia Marittima. Both airports have car rental and taxi services. From the city of Piombino it is necessary to transfer to the marinas of embarkation.

⛴️ By ferry/hydrofoil

The tourist ports of Piombino offer connections with the Island of Elba, with direct lines to Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo. The main operating companies are Moby, Toremar and Blu Navy; Average crossing times vary from 35 minutes to 1 hr 30, depending on the route and the type of vessel. The services include both vehicle and passenger-only boarding, with dedicated ticket offices and docks in the marinas.
