This experience, in a nutshell

We propose a week of sea and sailing in the splendid Pontine islands in the name of relaxation, sunbathing, swimming in crystal clear water, aperitifs at sunset ... but also navigation, life experience on board, conviviality and fun in contact with nature!

We will discover the islands by moving slowly from one bay to another, between short sailings, excursions with the tender, snorkeling in the most suggestive spots; in the evening we will often go ashore to immerse ourselves in the liveliness of Ponza Porto or to savor the more intimate atmosphere of Ventotene.

This year there will be two on board, Elena and I and we will do everything to make you spend an unforgettable week!

Exclusive holiday for 4 people!

Description of the islands

The Pontine Islands are indisputably among the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean!

Despite being close to each other (Palmarola and Ventotene are respectively one and three hours by boat from Ponza) they are very different from each other despite having in common the extreme beauty of the coasts and the exceptional transparency of the water!

One of the main characteristics of Ponza , seen through the eyes of those who go by sea, is that of offering shelter in all wind and sea conditions, both because it is positioned across the prevailing winds, and for its morphology: this allows you to find almost always flat water conditions on one of the two sides of the island and a pleasant breeze coming from the land, especially in the evening hours!

Ponza is also characteristic for the colors of its volcanic rocks: white, ocher and various shades of brown create unique and fascinating compositions, present in no other island in the Mediterranean!

The most evocative part of the island is the west one, with the famous beach of Chiaia di Luna, the splendid caves of Capo Bianco which can also be traveled with the tender, the bay of Lucia Rosa and its Faraglioni, the pools of Cala Feola ... but equally beautiful are the beaches on the east side of the island such as Cala Inferno, Cala del Cuore, Cala dell'Arco Naturale, Frontone and others.

Snorkelers will be struck by the transparency of the water and the beauty of the seabed.

Ponza is also a worldly island, frequented by the international jet set and its colorful village is full of restaurants, bars and characteristic clubs.

Palmarola, on the other hand, is a desert island for most of the year, frequented only in the summer by the owners of the cave-houses, typical houses carved into the rock that overlook Cala del Porto on the west side of the island and a few other buildings. ; in Cala del Porto there is also the only restaurant on the island. Trekking lovers can take the path that goes from the beach to the top of the island to enjoy the splendid panorama!

The east side of the island, near the Forcina rock and the Spermaturo rock, is characterized by Caribbean-colored water while in the northern part of the island there is the splendid Tramontana cove, also called Cala Cattedrale due to the shape of the overhanging rock on the sea and where you can often see groups of goats perched on the rocks in absolutely unexpected points!

To the south of the island we find another splendid bay, Cala Brigantino, bordered by the stacks of Mezzogiorno with sequences of caves and passages that enhance the colors of the water.

But Palmarola is not just this ... every stretch of coast of this island hides wonders, which we will discover while wandering around with the tender!

Ventotene is more difficult to describe because the characteristic of this island is the atmosphere: quiet, relaxing, intimate!

Seen from the sea, its dark color is striking, due to the tuff that makes up its coasts; approaching the shore you can appreciate the absolute transparency of the water and putting on the mask you will discover splendid seabeds rich in fish due to the presence of the protected marine area.

On the southern side of the island, in addition to the wide dark sandy beach of Cala Nave, there are small beaches that can be reached by tender, while on the north side we find the beaches of Parata Grande and Calarossano.

One of the main features of the island is the Roman port, dug into the tuff in the Romanesque period and still usable today; from the small harbor the small and charming village extends upwards, ending in a large square overlooked by the Town Hall; a little further on there is a splendid balcony overlooking Cala Nave and the facing islet of Santo Stefano.

Every day ... and several times a day ... you will be distressed by the "sailor's dilemma": stay to continue to enjoy the beauty of the already discovered place or leave in search of a new place, perhaps more beautiful, perhaps less beautiful, but certainly different ...

Pontine Islands aboard a splendid 16-meter sailboat

I would not recommend an experience on the Claudia boat. What was missing, first of all, was the feeling of freedom that a person seeks when choosing to sail. Leonardo is certainly a prepared skipper and very attached to his boat, but he did not seem suitable for the role of tourist skipper: he appeared too attentive to his own needs and not enough to those of his guests. From the beginning, he and his wife welcomed us with a list of prohibitions and rules, without any enthusiasm or desire to convey the joy of making us experience a beautiful holiday. They did not try to involve or create a group, and every time they set a limit or a prohibition they did so in a rigid manner, often accompanied by looks of mutual impatience that conveyed contempt rather than attention. Just a few practical examples: After each swim it was mandatory to change your swimsuit in the stern platform, preparing it in advance with a dry towel, and you could move from there only if completely dry. To smoke it was necessary to ask permission every time, and you could only do it in the stern platform/platform, and only if you "could no longer resist". At the simple request to open the awning we witnessed quarrels and screams. The passage by tender to the port of Ponza was explicitly denied despite the fact that we were at anchor in the port 50 meters from land, saying that he did not consider the idea of picking us up (without any of us having previously said he wanted to be late, otherwise it would have been understandable) and that there was a taxi boat for a fee. His wife Elena, if on the one hand cared a lot about the internal cleanliness of the boat (the bathrooms were in fact well cared for), on the other hand did not contribute to creating a relaxed atmosphere: she watched over every action done in the kitchen or below deck, rather than helping us feel at ease. What really left us stunned was the total lack of respect for the sea: several times we were asked to throw everything into the water – cigarette butts, napkins, fruit, toothpicks – and each time we refused. Such a request, from those who should love and protect the sea, we would never have expected. Although we were in an ideal context, we practically never sailed, except for about twenty minutes. To every request the answer was that there was "too much wind" or "too little wind", even when the conditions seemed favorable, there was no hurry and other boats sailed with their sails unfurled in the same direction. Finally, a very serious aspect was the failure to respect the maximum number of people on board: an extra seat was rented and I found myself sleeping in the dinette, despite having paid for a cabin. A few days earlier I had been asked to move to a bunk cabin, indicated on sailsquare as an additional 'skipper cabin', with the motivation of not creating a mixed cabin that could embarrass another guest. I had given partial availability to evaluate the spaces, being very high, and the real needs, but the management was incorrect and I felt "cheated". In reality, an additional place had been rented. To make the situation worse, Sailsquare's assistance proved to be completely insufficient and at times inquisitive. After several previous positive experiences, I wonder what is the point of relying on Sailsquare and not on other channels if, in times of real need, you do not receive any support. The Pontine Islands have very interesting scenery and a beautiful sea. The Ponzesi with whom we interacted seemed to us to be exquisite, welcoming and friendly people. Positive notes: The boat is very nice and comfortable for ten people (only the eleventh was missing a seat at the table). The management of fuel expenses was extremely correct with what was indicated and spent.

An unforgettable experience! The sailing trip with Leonardo and Elena was much more than a holiday: an authentic immersion in the beauty of the sea and the passion for sailing of two extraordinary people. Leonardo, an experienced and professional skipper, conveys safety and tranquility. Elena, always kind and caring, welcomes you on board and makes every moment special. The islands, with their crystal clear waters and hidden coves, were the perfect backdrop for days full of excitement, relaxation and discovery. Every detail was carefully taken care of, the atmosphere always harmonious and relaxed. We felt not just guests, but part of a small family. I recommend this experience to those looking for nature, authenticity and beautiful people. Definitely!

I won't write a review, but I'll paste the message I wrote to Leonardo and Elena after they got back: We wanted to thank you for the beautiful weekend on a sailing boat. Everything was perfect: the weather was magnificent, the company really pleasant and your organization impeccable. You were competent, nice and easy-going, and you made us feel not only comfortable, but just like guests at a friend's house. It was a special experience that we will take with us, and we hope to be able to repeat it soon! Lorenzo & Alba...

Four unforgettable days in the Pontine Islands, a simply fantastic holiday! An experience for me definitely to be repeated, and, above all, to recommend to those who love the sea to live at least once in their life to savor a type of journey made mainly of sharing with others and connection with nature! A round of applause to Leonardo, our skipper/captain, and to his wife Elena, second in command, the icing on the cake, who with great competence, professionalism and availability made us explore a small corner of paradise at sea! Together, with the rest of the hilarious crew, to whom my thanks also go to them, we shared everything, endless laughter, dinners on board and on land, in short, indelible memories! See you soon, fair winds, Paola 🥰🤩😍
