A NIGHTMARE.
I have never written a negative review out of respect for the work of others, but in this circumstance the moral duty to alert any hypothetical customer must prevail, and prevails.
Umberto, the skipper, with an arrogant, touchy, overbearing character, uses aggressive rebounds with his wife and guests, men, women or children, without any distinction; He is incapable of any dialogue or open-mindedness to evaluations different from his own, which he naturally considers the only possible and right ones.
For all 5 days (it is in fact 5 days and 6 nights, contrary to what is written).
it was a real nightmare; We felt like prisoners of a skipper, and his wife, who with absolute autarky and without any sharing decided to do what the moment suggested to them, getting upset if they were asked for a program for the day or the following hours. A program that continuously and suddenly changed, citing changes in winds, storms and stormy seas that never occurred.
Porto Flavia was not even taken into consideration or named and when we arrived in the bay of the dunes of Porto Pino, Umberto, moored in the part furthest from the dunes, saying that we could reach them by swimming as they were "only" 3 miles away. When asked to accompany us with the tender, he said he did not have enough fuel (we had not yet used the tender) and knowing that we had already seen them on a previous holiday, he said that it was not necessary for us to see them again.
If we took a bath in the morning before breakfast, he said we had to hurry up because he wanted to leave after 15 minutes. The day took place sailing for 5/6 hours each way; it seemed to be on a cargo ship and certainly not on a catamaran cruising among the wonders of southern Sardinia.
Because of the very long navigations it was possible to have lunch between 14:30 and 15 and if in the meantime, to appease the pangs of hunger, one dared to eat something, he said that it was convulsive hunger.
Meals consisted of boiled potatoes mixed with beets, tomatoes, feta, olives or eggplant depending on the day. The only "fish" we ate was tuna from the cans of the discount store mixed with ricotta to make meatballs, and the only meat was frozen chicken breast, requested a plate of pasta for one of the lunches we were given chickpea pasta obviously without asking if they liked it.
It is not possible to provide the food directly and therefore even as far as meals are concerned, one is obliged to submit to the tastes and quantities of Umberto and Elisa, who rather than being attentive to good nutrition (canned tuna, frozen chicken breast and potatoes) are very careful to keep costs to a minimum.
We arrived in Carloforte at 4:30 pm, after an exhausting day of navigation and without having taken a swim all day, Umberto wanted to take us directly to port. On the last day, when we arrived in Pula and moored in the roadstead, our exasperation and endurance had reached the limit. For 5 days we were at the mercy of people without any sense of professionalism, hospitality and empathy and to whom it was not possible to expose any need or request. We went ashore where we spent the afternoon on the beach and for dinner we booked a restaurant where we could finally enjoy a dinner worthy of the name in serenity. We received threatening messages from Umberto with which he ordered us to return immediately to the boat under penalty of sleeping on the beach.
If this were not enough, the "[hidden] catamaran" had a bow net where you lie down to sunbathe, full of patches, so, when we got on board, Umberto told us to be careful because it was not safe. He also told us not to use the shower in the cabin, but the external one; The toilet in the cabin, instead of letting in clean water to drain the dirt, let in dirty water (pieces of tomato and organic residues from the previous drain) and in the cabin there was a terrible stench coming from the toilet that forced you to keep the bathroom door closed and to cover your nose when you had to use it. Umberto, warned of this, said it was normal.
Finally, it was their care and concern to occupy the only places in the shade, letting us guests settle in uncomfortable places and in the sun.
Umberto and Elisa are proud to say that this is not their job and that they did something else in life. They bought the catamaran to spend their retirement there but realizing the high costs of management and maintenance, they improvised themselves as skippers and hostesses by offering catamaran cruises, as they said, without having any professionalism and competence. They treat people as if they were unwelcome, bulky, and annoying guests.
I had read a negative comment among the reviews and before booking I took care to ask Umberto in writing the reason for that review. His explanation was that that guest was poliomelitic and his partner was in the sixth month of pregnancy and therefore a climate of tension had formed also because the guests had no sailing experience.
It is therefore necessary to point out that, on the cruise days I am reviewing, none of the guests on Umberto and Elisa's boat was poliomelitic and/or pregnant and that all the guests present had previous experience of sailing and catamaran holidays. We, before living this nightmare, had already spent 5 holidays on a sailing boat, where we obviously always had a very good time, where the skippers and those who managed the galley were able to make us experience wonderful days of relaxation, creating an atmosphere of harmony and serenity with the whole crew, giving us emotions and memories that we will always carry in our hearts. Umberto and Elisa, on the other hand, managed to ruin our holidays by causing us considerable damage.
A good and conscious choice for posterity.
