St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is a paradisiacal archipelago of nine islands. The Grenadines are located in the south of the Caribbean Sea. The islands combine a warm climate with turquoise waters and a rich natural environment. Each of the Grenadines islands have a unique identity. The capital island of St. Vincent is made up largely of rainforest, whereas, the smaller Bequia, for example, is a peaceful escape from with tranquil spots such as the Princess Margaret Beach. A sailing holiday offers a special viewpoint of the Grenadines, as well as the most convenient way to see all of the different islands.
Kingstown is the capital city of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The town plays home to one of the oldest Botanical Gardens in the world and from the town’s Fort Charlotte brilliant panoramic views can be seen. St. Vincent is a lush volcanic, with a mountainous landscape dotted with valleys and creaks. The shoreline of the east coast is rugged and rocky, whilst the shoreline to the west is home to breathtaking black sand beaches. To the north, the volcano of La Soufrière sits at 1219 meters above sea level. The second largest island of Bequia is a bright spark of atmosphere and warmth. Its maritime history is ever present, with most of the islands inhabitants in some way working as or with the fishermen or boating in some capacity. Here, there are a number of stunning beaches, however, arguably some of the most stunning seabeds. Diving and snorkeling is recommended along Elizabeth Harbor and off Princess Margaret Beach. Together with Cape Town and Tobago Cays, Bequia is a must stop are for keen divers, snorkelers or any general admirers of nature!
Martinique offers 1,080km2 of beautiful landscapes. Rainforest covers much of the northern part of the island. Again, the island’s scenery are, again, volcanic. The Pelee Mountain, standing at 1397m above sea level, along with the Pitons du Carbet and Morne Jacob dominate this area of the island, and home to unique beaches of black sands with a succession of quiet fishing villages. Then the south of Martinique offers holiday destination of white sand beaches, palm trees, and warm Caribbean water. The Grande Anse du Diamant is a famous, 3km long beach and the posterpiece for this remarkable area of the island.
A sailing holiday in the area opens up much of the Lesser Antilles. Beyond the Grenadine islands of Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Union Island, Mayreau, Petit St Vincent, Palm Island, and the stunning desert island of Mopion, famously home to just one solitary umbrella. Areas such as St. Lucia and Grenada are also reachable. It is recommended that you message a skipper, to understand exactly how their proposed itinerary is composed, and what might be flexible to your travel wishes.
