Just returned from the Caribbean after a week with Gianluca and the Vivila sailing team. I had the most wonderfull experience, its hard to put into words.
Gianluca is a truly excellent captain and instructor, patient and considerate throughout, always happy to answer my 1000 and 1 questions on boats and sailing.
The itinerary that Gianluca created was extraordinary, we visited places that you just can't get to unless you are on a boat, the Tobego Cays and the island of Mayreau we two of the highlights.
It's important to note that unlike most of the experiences you will find on Sailsquare, Gianluca's trips arn't a commercial enterprise, rather, they are a chance for people outside of the Vivila sailing team to make up the numbers and cover the costs of chartering a boat. On this trip there were 16 people on 2 boats with 2 captains and crew from Italy, France, Germany and the UK.
It's my dream to sail with Gianluca and the Vivila team again, hoping to visit Croatia this summer.
Crossing the Atlantic was a dream i had for a long time and Dominikus and Patricia made this dream come true in the best way ! Dominikus is a skipper you always feel safe with, he is also a captain who likes to share how things work on the boat and about the wind, sailing and the ocean. And more than this he always put good energy and fun in the crew ! Regarding Patricia, she also is the best. Very attentive of what you may need or how you feel, she cooked everyday (21days) some amazing fresh food, she takes very good care of the boat and make this trip a Luxury adventure ! If anyone dream of crossing the Atlantic or just want to spend time on spanish islands i recommand you join the Genia crew!!
What can I say? Another round another gift: to spend a fantastic week with Filo. For three years now I have been lucky enough to sail among the most beautiful seas that this world gives us, and the company, charisma, sympathy and competence of wire can only make everything extremely perfect!
I left alone and not being a dragon in English I could have had some difficulties. Instead the availability, the sympathy and the professionalism of the crew immediately put me at ease. Holiday higher than expectations, both for the services offered, both for the boat equipped with every comfort, both for the staff and for the itinerary carried out. To be repeated!
We have recently returned from this wonderful journey and we still have in our hearts and eyes the beautiful places we have visited.
A huge thank you to the skipper Alessandro who led us with skill, sympathy and a lot of patience in the "perilous" Caribbean waters, infested with barracuda (unfortunately no lampughe or tuna). If you still want us on board with you, we will be there!
Thanks also to the co-skipper "zen", the pizza maker "in pectore", Carlo and his partner Mala who cheered us up with his extravagant good humor and his lucullian dishes.
Thanks also to the travel companions: Antonella, Carmen, Luisa, Renata, Danilo and Nerino, with whom we shared the holiday in a good mood.
Until next time. Valentina and Norberto
Eric is a skipper attentive to everyone's needs and knows how to put his human knowledge and the sea at the service of the people he welcomes on his boat.
I am delighted with this cruise on the Guadeloupean islands.
Vittorio is an excellent sailor, an excellent cook and his boat is very large, very clean spacious and comfortable. However, communication is not his forte and we learned this the hard way. We would indeed have worked out qq details before departure because we were very surprised to learn that I refused to do any night navigation. And this even for the longest crossings such as the one that consists of going around Guadeloupe or the one between Guadeloupe and Antigua. Balance we barely did half of the planned route: only Antigua and Barbuda while had to go to St Kitts then Nevis and Montserrat (over 10 days it was supposed to be feasible. This change of program led to a rather bad atmosphere within the group of customers who were all the more disappointed that on board there was not only another crew member and among the customers there were also people to ensure the 1/4 night !...
We had 10 days of beautiful weather, ideal wind between 15 and 18 knots so perfect for the beautiful sailings we enjoyed! The skipper was good at taking advantage of the various wind directions and then deciding on the fastest route, always safely. From a technical/sailing point of view Riccardo is very prepared. He is also an excellent fisherman and cook! In addition, very importantly, he knows well the accesses to the ports and to the potential bays where to make anchorages for the night. On the information on ports and customs (timetables / costs, moorings / buoys, etc.) could instead improve. The catamaran is very comfortable, spacious, well equipped and well maintained; it allowed us a cruising comfort much superior to monohulls. I found myself very well with the other girl on board, an excellent adventure companion, despite the age difference. Overall I am very satisfied with how the cruise went! Happy Wind to all! ????
.. these are the holidays I prefer... to discover enchanted places and people... if then at the helm there is a person who knows how to instill security and tranquility and even in the most 'eventful' situations knows how to keep a cool head, the holiday becomes an indelible experience ....
Sailing savoring the silences that dig inside you, moved by the waves and the sound of the wind are experiences that you can share with a few people, because only a few allow you to discover your and its world ... Thank you very much....
apart from the whale, skipper you have kept all the promises (postcard bays, turtles, etc ????) ... skipper & hostess combination of 10+ !!!!
To the next experiences .... as beautiful as the waves of the sea
Simone is a competent and very professional skipper, able to involve all types of crew in on-board activities and maneuvers. Very available to meet every need, both group and individual. Tireless, you will always find him active, day and night! Highly recommended, I will definitely go back to take other holidays with him.
It all started as a game as I peeked on the sailsquare site the different types of boat holidays. To convince me immediately the phone call with Andrea, the skipper who guided us in an experience to say the least unique and exhilarating, to discover wonderful Caribbean sunsets and pristine beaches. I found a wonderful group, really fun and the credit goes all to Andrea who was able to better coordinate the crew and the flotilla thus ensuring a pleasant balance of the cruise, with a perfect knowledge of the places to visit and an impeccable navigation management. Another positive note the divine cuisine of the captain who delighted us with tasty dinners, among other things far superior to the level of local restaurants. I will definitely make a trip again with this skipper because he showed professionalism and I felt totally safe and followed in my every need at every moment of the trip.
Varki: If it didn't exist, it would have to be invented :)
Great skipper, wonderful friend, excellent in negotiations and as a moderator, and an explosive sympathy ..... in short, in the next trips I would always like to find him on board !!
Good organization. I was not in the crew with Michele, but with Alessandro, fantastic as a skipper: patient, reassuring, kind. Maybe too many hours of navigation but I realize that not being possible to sail at night in Cuba there is no
Catamaran in good but not very good condition.
Excellent experience. Serge is an experimented skipper and knows the area inside out. Him and Leti are wonderful hosts, great guides on land and through navigation. Amazing cookers of traditional french cousine, copious food, wine and Rhum of course!
I strongly recommend this cruise if you are looking for complete relaxation in comfort!
Tex is the classic sea wolf... polite and lonely... he never misses an opportunity to advise you and make you feel at ease... as well as a great navigation expert and 'really exquisite person to share a holiday.
The holiday was very nice. The couple of skippers had amply prepared themselves before to make the most of the time available and prepared a navigation route that allowed us to see all the places where it was possible to drop anchor. The chosen boat was adequate for the holiday. Unfortunately it was changed by the charter a few days before departure for an older version with some annoying flaws discovered along the way: a bathroom that leaked, winch still too little powerful, gps only in dinette. To the couple of skippers, however, I recommend further practice before bringing other guests on board. Despite the undeniable enthusiasm and energy, the lack of practical experience (despite the CV) often translated into a lot of anxiety, instructions shouted with agitation especially in maneuvers in restricted waters. This tension and some small but alarming mistakes have somewhat tarnished the holiday that remains in any case a beautiful experience to remember. Faith and Fra
Francis turned out to be a competent person; with sailing experience and ready to drive a boat independently. These skills, however, accompanied by a more limited participation in the spirit of the holiday compared to the rest of the crew, have translated, instead of a relaxed and tourist approach, into an experience focused on the comparison on most of the technical choices made, with dissatisfaction with those points that were not realized according to his sensibilities. Although we tried to support them (for example, often leaving the rudder in the different sail edges, which Francesco likes very much), evidently we have not always succeeded. We sincerely regret that. According to Francis, for example, the bow/stern communications between me and Ellina in maneuver were "screamed", and in fact they sometimes took place aloud. But with 20 knots of trade winds almost always present in the ears and on our catamaran, the frequent anchor blocks (especially of the winch engine, but also of the chain links) that we had to manage in the middle of the maneuvers, the knobs of the engines that had difficulty engaging the crowd (and they did it in different positions between right and left ...), as well as the same noise of the anchor winch of a different and older boat than the one we had booked... (the result of the replacement decided by the charterer), raising the volume of communications was a necessity to be sure of understanding and completing the anchoring maneuvers to the fullest, as it happened. We tend to a pinch of caution more than one less, especially in the given conditions and with guests on board ... Beyond the different opinions, which we respect, we are still happy that Francesco also appreciated the beautiful holiday, as indeed confirmed by himself, and we hope to have him still on board with us, perhaps this time on a newer boat, like the one we had booked (and that was not given to us as it crashed the previous week), and therefore with still regularly functioning, engine controls in place and GPS available to rudders, instead of a few meters away in the dinette, so as to make life on board easier for everyone.
